BBC Daily Service led by a Catholic Children's Choir

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

BBC Daily Service led by a Catholic Children's Choir

Post by Chris »

I thought it might be of interest to you all to hear a Catholic children's choir sang the Daily Service this morning on BBC R4.

To listen again to the service, go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/programmes/dailyservice/ and click on listen again (Monday 5th March)

The service was sung by the Bradford Girls' Choir, who are part of the Bradford Youth Choir, the largest children's singing program in the UK run by the Diocese of Leeds in conjunction with the Catholic schools of Bradford and Keighley.

Reflecting the liturgical season of Lent, music sung by the choir ranged from a translation of the 6th Century hymn 'The Glory of these Forty Days' through to a contemporary piece by Catholic composer Bernadette Farrell 'God beyond all names.' Also featured was the hymn 'Just as I am' appropriately also written by a female composer, Charlotte Elliott in the 19th Century. All in all, a balanced program with music from the 6th, 19th and 20th Centuries!

For further information on the choir go to http://www.bradfordyouthchoir.org
For a new blog on music in the Diocese of Leeds, go to http://psallite-domino.blogspot.com/

Happy listening!
