Extraordinary Form

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

I thought I'd read up on the info proffered by Oops - but

voanews wrote:Francis recently announced a special Holy Year of Mercy, in which any priest can grant women forgiveness for abortion, considered a grave sin by the church. The observation begins December 8, a holy day honoring [sic] belief in the Virgin Mary’s immaculate conception of Jesus.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!
So much for informed background!

I hope you are not thinking I would have any kind of informed background? Not guilty.

Not me. Just googling around. That second article is American Journalism.
What is the problem?

Not yours, Oops - the "definition" of "December 8 a Holy day . . . .etc"
I'll enlarge if you wish, but it's likely to get me banned! :(

Oh
I thought we were going to be able to have a competition offering a prize to the first person to spot the problem.

Thinking that an Immaculate Conception is something that leads to a Virgin Birth is a fairly common newspaper error...

More insidious than that, Contra - it reflects the very British presumption (and very Catholic one - so very very British-Catholic) that any conception which involves - er - not being a virgin is intrinsically evil and very definitely Maculate.

We were contemplating the fact that the Latin Mass requires males to do the serving etc. We have not yet mentioned that it is OK for a woman to serve if " she knows Latin" and does not move. So she can respond ( as on behalf of the congregation )- but not waltz around the altar doing moves.

The language of "manning up" - which is a needed in some places........ "Are you man enough"

Maybe, the advertisement of the Extraordinary Form on Diocesesescan websites.

Parish, Cathedral, Extraordinary Form.

And so on.
