What anniversary of the Election of Francis???

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

What anniversary of the Election of Francis???

Post by Terry Quinn »

Music & Liturgy, issue No 350 tells us that on June 29 we mark the anniversary of the Election of Pope Francis as directed by the Bishop's Conference. I have been unable to find this reported anywhere else, nor have I come across anyone who has even heard of it. I am mystified! :?:

The only possible reason I can think of is that he was elected during Lent last year, so it is moved to the most appropriate feast.

Is it specific to Francis or because it is the Ss Peter and Paul?

Pope Francis seems a very nice chap. But doesn't Peter & Paul take precedence?

Can anyone point us to the "decision of the bishops conference?" Can't remember ever having celebrated the anniversaries of any previous popes? If it's about prayers at Mass the Pope is named in every Eucharistic Prayer. If we are now going to mark popes' anniversaries of election, we'll be singing "God Bless our Pope" again before too long. AARGH!

AARGH!...........The note redoubles!
Still wondering how M&Liturgy came across this instruction; they seem to be the only ones to have heard about it.

Recent form would suggest that he will have his own feast day in due course anyway.

Setting aside the anniversary of the current incumbent for a moment, am I right in thinking that the music set for today, especially in cathedrals, tends to ignore St Paul. Much of the 'high' church music seems to be versions of "Tu es Petrus". This isn't supposed to be a feast of the Papacy, or is it?

29 June is the anniversary of Pope Emeritus Benedict's ordination. :D
