The New Texts: A Seminar for Composers

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Your wish is my command! Hope you don't get too many phone calls from strange men (especially those who live, or used to live, in Sheffield  )

A pilgrim passport, a Magnificat Missal and a CD of new age mood music. :-)

I have it on good authority that it won't be raining in either Hammersmith or Salford and so ponchos will not be required. :-) As for the contents of the pack, you'll have to come along, Presbyter, if you want to find out.

We will be extending the deadline for bookings to 19 February. Thank you for that suggestion, Phil.

In response to several queries I've received, I confirm that the seminars will be very informative and, whilst aimed primarily at those composing music for Catholic parishes, they are open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the new texts. There are already a number of non-composers coming along.

Including me! Although I have written a Kyrie, and an Agnus, and the odd responsorial psalm.

I wonder if we will be able to guess peoples' identities........ 8)

I too have composed some very odd psalm settings over the years.

I'll be there at the London event - pay on the day or in advance?

You can pay on the day, Mithras, but you must let me know that you're definitely coming. Or perhaps you already have, using another name? :-) Anyway, let me know if you want me to reserve a place for Mithras, or for someone else. You'll appreciate my difficulty; if forum members sign up using their aliases we could finish up with a game of 'Guess Who?' on the day!

(Aside)
I've not grasped the purpose of an alias. Is it like a confirmation name but for fora (forums)?

What I want to learn from these seminars:

The definitive texts for singing - and how definitive they really are.
What musical settings will be available in Advent 2011 - and when can we start teaching/using them?
What's this I hear about imprimaturs and approval processes?
Can parishes continue to sing settings of the old texts (including paraphrases) - if not, who's going to stop them?
Why all this talk about entrance antiphons etc - and which texts can we use (and where can we get them)?
Have the musical priorities at Mass changed at all?

I'll post more as and if they occur to me. You might like to do the same.
