Christmas Day Dawn Mass

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Christmas Day Dawn Mass

Post by asb »

Are there any commercially available settings of the proper Responsorial Psalm for the Dawn Mass, or does anyone have a setting that they would be prepared to share? I used this http://chabanelpsalms.org/CHABANEL_PSAL ... _ORGAN.pdf last year, but it didn't go down very well......

Incidentally, can anyone tell me how one convetrts a URL into the word this in a posting?

I can do the second question, but not the first!

I'll use { and } to represent [ and ], so the system will show the characters to type, not the results..

There are 2 ways of putting a url in these boards:

{url}http://www.bbc.co.uk{/url} displays as http://www.bbc.co.uk
{url=http://www.bbc.co.uk}The Beeb{/url} displays as The Beeb

So, in short, instead of putting the address of the page to link to between the opening and closing url markers, put the address inside the first one with an equals sign and put the text you want to show between them.

There is a setting by Gelineau (response by Carroll) in his "Lectionary Psalms" (Publ GIA available through Decani ISBN 0-941050-07-6) and one in John Schiavone's "A Lectionary Psalter" (publ OCP can;t see an ISBN). Both have the American response "A light will shine on us this day: the Lord is born for us" rather than the one that' s in my Missal: "This day new light will shine upon the earth: The Lord is born for us." and the Schiavone one has verses from whatever translation of the psalms is used over the pond (ie not the grail), but then that's also true of the chabanel one. Verses are easy to fix, moving the response back to the old world more tricky.

Not really sure; they have sung "harder" responses before.

I put the "American" version of the response on the printed order of service, but I think most of the congregation had their noses firmly glued to the Mass books and didn't bother to look at their service sheets.

My cantor was not overkeen on it as he hates singing plainchant in English rather than Latin and from "round" as opposed to "square" notation. :?

 Actually, I've just had another look at the chabanel one, and our missal words fit the tune exactly - never noticed that before.
