Procession of Holy Oils

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Procession of Holy Oils

Post by VML »

Please can anyone tell me at what point the holy oils blessed at the Chrism Mass should be brought in to the parish church? We have, I think, usually had it sometime at the beginning of the evening Mass, but we have a change of PP and he has asked me if there is anything suitable to sing with this ceremony. I can see no reference to it in any of my copies of the Mass of the Last Supper.

VML, I can heartily recommend David Ogden's Hymn of Chrism. It is published by White Light Publishing (8 Filton Road, Hambrook, Bristol BS16 1QL and http://www.whitelightpublishing.co.uk). It is published along with a useful Hymn to the Eucharist. The Chrism Hymn is a very strong and fine modal melody which is easily picked up by all. You can see and hear the piece on their website, along with full details for ordering.
