Interesting Icon event in Leeds

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Interesting Icon event in Leeds

Post by oopsorganist »

Here is the booking form for this event. It is being hosted at a new conference sort of, venue which is Hunslet Methodist Church which is very spacious and trying to develop a new role for itself. This is one of their events. I can email the application form if anyone fancies this day of Christian study. However I cannot link it here so have pasted it.
Saturday 18th April
An Introduction to Iconography
at South Leeds Oasis

Icons are at the heart of Eastern Orthodox spirituality; they have been described as "windows into eternity" and are rich in symbolism. They have become increasingly popular in western churches as focus for meditative prayer. During this day we will look at the process by which icons are created, their place in Orthodox worship and spirituality, the symbolism of icons, and there will be led meditations on individual icons, and some quiet time.
The day will be led by Andrew DeSmet, he is an Anglican priest working in a rural North Yorkshire Anglican Methodist LEP, a spiritual director, counsellor and trainer; he is Pastoral Care Adviser in York Diocese. He paints icons using the traditional egg tempera technique.
