Re: Comparing the meerkat - the digital experience!

SC... Your quote: "As for Phoenix, all I can say is that their factory is located here in the South but curiously not as many instruments are installed down south as further north. None of the ones I have seen in this part of the world are at all impressive, and this opinion is shared by others...

Re: Comparing the meerkat - the digital experience!

Re cost. PM me if you want the spec and details. all I can confirm here is that a Makin of similar proportions was quoted at over 12K more (Sterling £)... on top of which an installation fee was going to be levied! My meeting with them was aggressively sales driven and pushy. At the end of the day, ...

Re: Comparing the meerkat - the digital experience!

Nick - if you were an organist and had the organ console at one end and the speakers at the other end you would not appreciate the inherent problem that introduces.
Try working with a soloist and get the balance right - It's hell on earth.

Re: Comparing the meerkat - the digital experience!

Had to reply to this... Last assessment offered is wildly far of the mark in relation to phoenix. We took delivery of a three manual and pedal with nine external channels - including a high power tuba speaker and substantial bass column with 18" driver for the 32' sub and 32' reed on pedals. Ph...

Re: Agnus Dei...or not!

Our lists are notified in writing in our sacristy a full month in advance (on the notice board in front of the vesting area) - We always sing the Agnus Dei but in recent times - over the summer - and with the choir in recess, it has been easy to automatically slip into the Agnus Dei... that's what h...

Re: Morning Worship Sunday 6th September - St Therese

Mithras... you are then going to have a big problem singing Stainer's 'God so loved the world'... especially the bit where it says 'that he gave his only son' etc... You made me go look at my hymnal for the words of the verse you refer to... Verse 3 (in Laudate). We never use that verse in any case ...

Re: Morning Worship Sunday 6th September - St Therese

Out of pure curiosity I had to fast forward to hear the final hymn... This kind of 'treatement' is what kills otherwise stately hymns. Forget about the other bits for a moment... Breathing? Rhythm? vocal support? all on public radio service? I would not let my choir get away with this style of singi...

Agnus Dei...or not!

At I type, it is drizzling down outside my window... Oh summer, where did you go! Choir was back today after our 'summer' recess. With all of the porky flu threads recently, I won't bore with the details... however, of late, our little quiet moment of reflection on pax has disappeared - well, at lea...

Re: Sign of Peace

In relation to this thread, last Sunday's Gospel (Mark 7:1-8) is ringing loudly in my head - the bit about some of the disciples eating with unclean hands... you all know the story - traditions etc. Sign of peace... wash your hands! and, don't sneeze at thine neighbour! In our church we no longer ma...

Re: Bit left out?

The issue was more to do with the systematic exclusion of the opening part of the reading (as exists in most missals and in the lectionary). The nature of the language could easily be misinterpreted in a modern context. I've just discovered that this omission is permitted - This years liturgical cal...

Re: Bit left out?

I am looking for a reference in the Irish 2008 ordo (liturgical calerdar) - something was mentioned in there about the exclusion of that passage. I may have more detail later this evening. A web reference that might shed a little light on the subject is at m - written by John Kavanaugh S.J. The hist...

Re: Bit left out?

Gabriel, I must check that out - It is the first time I have been made aware of such. I don't have a difficulty with the full version - Indeed, it provides an opportunity for explication etc. Would you drive your car if one of the wheel nuts was missing? It's there for a reason! Taking that piece of...

Bit left out?

How many of you experienced today's second reading with the first paragraph purposely omitted? In my church there was a 'post-it' sticky note placed in the AMBO lectionary requesting all readers to omit the text highlighted in red below. All were instructed to begin with the words 'Husbands' after t...

Re: Hymnbooks

Hymnbooks a thing of the past? What a sweeping statement. My church is large (1,100 capacity) Average attendance 500-600 at the main masses. If I had to print resource sheets every week, that's a lot of printing and subsequent recycle waste. Not every church has a person capable of regularly produci...

Re: Happy Assumptiontide!!

Good on YA! Tribal chamber choir from Galway the Emerald Isle! Mark Keane, their conductor, also a great organist! Bogoroditse Devo - Gorgeous piece - my choir learned this for last May. My only lack was in the Bass dept! You need a dose of flu laced with a few naggins of Vodka to do those lines jus...
