Re: Services of the Word and Holy Communion
Don't forget that the current rites for non-Mass weddings and funerals include the option to distribute communion. Not quite. There is certainly a provision in the Order of Christian Funerals for Holy Communion to be distributed at a Funeral Liturgy outside Mass, but there is no provision in the Ri...

It's actually a very handsome publication (if you read Vietnamese).

Re: Copyright Permission
Silly bishops for putting a key part of our liturgy into the hands of commercial copyright-harvesters. Nothing to do with the bishops at all. They have no control over the copyright of translations. In this instance, the Grail, Conception Abbey, Missouri and GIA have agreed to this arrangement. GIA...

Re: Services of the Word and Holy Communion
Are you not going to have a go at Sundays too? Where does SWAC (thank you VML for this innovative acronym) replace Sunday Mass now? In the US, they seem to refer to SWAP (Sunday Worship in the Absence of a Priest). In several European countries, they talk about Sunday Celebration in Anticipation of...

And set the whole thing to variants on "She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes". What a brilliant idea!

Re: Services of the Word and Holy Communion
I think the more usual practice in this country (and it was still not widespread) was for the priest to communicate himself and the server only, and then immediately after Mass was over to communicate everyone else, including the extra numbers who had turned up at the end of Mass just for this. But ...

Re: When do the children leave?
By the way, Southern Comfort, I guess that you don't actually run a Children's LoW regularly! The LoW is not a fixed length of time, specially given Fr's homily and variable length scriptural chunks, and some week's I have ten or more minutes extra to other weeks. If the kids ain't talking and disc...

Re: Copyright Permission
On a very practical level... what is essentially wrong with the psalms as they are right now? No one's saying that there's anything wrong, simply that the new version may be better. It's rather like saying that there was nothing actually wrong with a 1950s Ford Anglia, but that a 2000s Ford Fiesta ...

Re: Copyright Permission
SC, Thank you for your comments - very much appreciated. The argument about waiting for Grail IV, while valid, is going to get wasted on me! (This is not the translation which has the gender changes? is it?) As Nick as already confirmed, no, it isn't. There have already been two gender-modified Gra...

Re: Copyright Permission
Out of curiosity, when you had this problem, how did you resolve it? My text settings are 'word for word' lectionary versions. No paraphrasing of any kind. It may be that the way you asked prompted the response you got. If you ask HarperCollins for a certain number of psalms, this is the sort of an...

Re: Services of the Word and Holy Communion
I'm begining work on an MA dissertation on the subject of weekday "Services of the Word and Holy Communion" and wondered whether any one may be able to assist with references for bibliography. Of particular interest to me is establishing the history of such services; it seems that in part...

Re: Music for weddings
Usual batting order (at least here) is: 1. Entrance of Bride 2. Presider's greeting 3. Opening hymn 4. Liturgy of the Word (reading - psalm - (2nd reading) - Gospel Acc - Gospel) 5. Rite of Marriage (consent, vows, rings etc) 6. Prayer of Faithful 7. Nuptial Blessing 8. Lord's Prayer 9. Final Bless...

Not for much longer ─ it appears to expire at the end of this year.

Re: Music for weddings
Laudate 418 (Surprised by joy) is a good text to start with. If Melcombe is likely to be unfamiliar, Tallis's Canon will do. Laudate 416 (When love is found) is an excellent and challenging and realistic text. Don't sing it to O waly, waly, which no one will know, but a brisk Old 100th would be OK (...
