I hope you are not thinking I would have any kind of informed background? Not guilty.
Not me. Just googling around. That second article is American Journalism.
What is the problem?

Re: Extraordinary Form
Perhaps these two articles available online sum up the issues and debates around female altar servers, lay ministries and women's difficulties within the Catholic church so I will try to link them thus saving anyone reading the thread from confusion. (Oo, that must be a first ) For Canon Law - Cardi...

Re: Extraordinary Form
I was reading more today. I found this "The reasons why the rubrics 'in no way contemplate the possibility of female servers' is because female servers were restricted by the 1917 Code (c. 813, §2). The 1917 Code is now completely abrogated, along with the prohibition on female altar servers, i...

Re: Extraordinary Form
Ah I googled. A little randomly perhaps. But different viewpoints came up for me to read. So. All those roles - like readers, Eucharistic Ministers and so on, are delegated to the laity by the powers of authority. Nowadays, they can be delegated to males and females. This delegation can be revoked. ...

Re: Choral Director Post
Perhaps the forum needs a Vacancies thingummy. That could be useful for paid and unpaid posts. Organist wanted. Choir leader available. Piano Accordionist needed, Southwark. That sort of thing. And then Admin in places like Leeds could pop their posts there without any discussion emerging. Take temp...

Re: Extraordinary Form
Ah you were there then?
I was in Leeds at another Mass which failed to happen, as 'appens. No priest available you see. Mid afternoon. In my family time.
"Man enough for the job" is not a good phrase really. It's oppressive language.

Re: Extraordinary Form
The article took me aback for other reasons. The Bishop is glad for this service to be midday as he states that people should not have to attend Mass in the afternoon because this is "family time". So. And yet, people with disabilities have their service mid afternoon. And last time, no pr...

Re: Extraordinary Form
Er so,
What is the defining factor?
It's not institutional misogeny is it?
Or perhaps, re enactment accuracy?
What is it. Please tell me. I need to know.

Re: Extraordinary Form
Thanks for that Becky.
There is no way I can get my head round that. Why one language should permit inclusion and the other be all discriminatory. Surely it is the same meaning in each activity.

Re: Choral Director Post
I think the funding is already there - from the local education authority, lottery and such like, and the other monies that a diocese may or may not have. And I don't think it is an extension of provision just a continuation ie someone has left. But that is irrelevant. MCB is right this is not the p...

Re: Choral Director Post
Whichever way you look at it, that is 9 paid staff in the Music Department. That'll be quite a big salary bill all told. Luckily it flows into the schools and washes into the parishes. (Washing away organists in the process )
It'll maybe suit someone who enjoys the Latin.

Re: Only 20 hymns
What he said. And also just mentioning that this thread is an off spin from the thread about parish music in an age of dwindling resources..... in that their is a need for a simple book/CD or website where the average parish can get some help for drawing together people to sing together without a sp...

Re: Only 20 hymns
It is, of course, a variation of the thread on Core Repertoire. But is is also, a look at what people are singing now as Core Repertoire and what they think they ought to be singing or would like to be singing. I guess. However, I started the thread after wittering on about how useful it would be to...
