Confirmation
Dear Pirate Not sure about the thinking but all the Confirmations in our Diocese are Services of the Word or Words and I have looked this up on line...just got an Irish website which I scanned. It said something about special provision for Service of the Word. I suppose it is like when you have a Ba...

Confirmation
Happy Christmas!
It never ends does it? I understand we will be having a Service of the Word instead of a Mass for our Confirmation ceremony this year. Not sure what this entails. We are meeting on Thursday to begin planning this and I am wondering how this need to be musicked up? Any ideas?

ooo johnmac What a lot of people! We had a great turn out this morning with the church quite full. I am glad I did not know this til the end. I played "Battle is O'er" really badly and would have been embarrassed if I had known anyone was there apart from my own family. It has gone OK with...

Oh thank goodness for that, I did think it looked a bit thin tonight. I doubt there were 50 in the church. I thought it might have been something I said. I am glad that they have all gone on holiday. They missed a very good Great Amen. The new Mass sheet was a bit different to last years. Will it be...

washing of feet
Thanks Mersysider and MCB I'll stick to the published choices. It's been displayed in the porch for three weeks and people have had time to request or comment and now it is just too late. We are hoping to sing 7 Psalms on Saturday. And that is enough of a challenge for this Tridium. The new cantor h...

Washing of Feet
We are planning to sing "The servant song" (Will you let me be your servant, let me be as Christ to you) and if necessary "This is my will my one command" during the washing of feet on Holy Thursday. I am meeting opposition from some members of the music group who like "My s...

twiddly bits
This is interesting Contrabordum I always wonder what to do in between verses? I cannot improvise so I am a bit stuck and silence is not good either. I manage to indicate when I am going to end by slowing down the last few bars... then holding the last note? This stops unruly congregation from carry...

Thank you all for the debate. I was just thinking in the bath about Gregorian chant and plainsong which I am not sure is the same thing, and also about bad folk music. Every society/culture has it's chants which mark it out and define it. This is true of ancient cultures and ancient rituals and reli...

hey wait for me! I have only just discovered Inwood! I love this modern music which has words that people can understand, relate to and apply to their daily living. A bit of twentieth century language! If you want some good choral singable music then there is Wild Goose and the Iona Community. Which...

A piano tuner once told me that you can use a bit of WD40 as a temporary measure on sticking piano keys and innards. I have not tried this myself.

No!
It's all true. I am that ignorant of the workings of the organ. And it is wheezing, honestly. I am more scared that it will be condemned by the Organ Repair man than I am of carrying on with my fingers crossed.

wheezy organ
OH NO! It has got lots of shutters inside and some sad looking metal pipes just behind the big gold tubes above the manuals.... the gold pipes may be just for show? Above them is a roundel with psuedo pipes ornament. These metal pipes have holes in them and look like sounds makers. Then there are so...

I can't tell! I have peered inside but there's just a lot of insides. The pipes are all around the manual you see and lots of casing. I can see a lot of wood so probably rods. I have a further peer around tomorrow morning. Some days it blows the main fuse too. Only on special occasions like Easter S...

Any one know why our organ has got itself stuck open in /G/ for all stops on the Great Organ? I have found that if I open all four stops on the Great Organ including the Open Diapason which I do not usually use, that this stops the noise but it sounds silly when I start to open the stops. Is it damp...
