Re: Bring flowers of the rarest
are post-concilliar...examples better...certainly less numerous. Probably because Marian devotions are less frequent – and that most likely because the people stopped coming once they had cars and out of town stores started opening on Sundays. I was recently harassed by someone who only visits our ...

Re: Bring flowers of the rarest
who reintroduced this sort of thing after it had long been absent from the liturgy. But was it ever part of the liturgy? When I was a child it would take its place in the 12-month cycle of afternoon devotions but I don't ever remember it at Mass – our ancient PP would have hit the roof. Having said...

Re: Bring flowers of the rarest
Ah! Mary Immaculate – that wonderful old Lutheran tune harmonised by Bach! What better? I can't sing O Mother blest without shedding a tear. But when we sing Sing of a girl in the ripening wheat in the middle of Advent we all shed a tear for one of the mothers among us who lost her daughter in tragi...

Re: Bring flowers of the rarest
I suppose there's a lot of presumed tradition here. We won't sing anything Marian during May because the 12 month cycle of devotions is different from the liturgical cycle. However, we always finish evening prayer with a Salve Regina, O Mother Blest or, more regularly, Mary Immaculate, Star of the M...

Re: Bring flowers of the rarest
On Sunday we shall be crowning Our Lady at Mass and will be singing "Bring flowers of the rarest" I'd be interested to know how you fit this into Mass on the Fourth Sunday of Easter when the themes are the Name of Jesus and the Good Shepherd. I admit to being an old git who's rather set i...

Re: School Graduation Masses
My apologies too None needed. but Nick, please see my original post: I was born in Sefton General Hospital. We have never legislated on who may or my not be born in our hospitals. Sefton General is now the site of my favourite Asda. Also, no criricism was intended - merely an observation based upon...

Re: School Graduation Masses
You are the first person ever to have combined my name and restraint in one sentence without use of a negative. The day I am known for restraint is the day I give up. This is far too important. Would that all had the wisdom of Musicus.

Re: School Graduation Masses
Sorry, Musicus. My fault for responding to criticism of our first city and it's people.
I should get on with helping create music for the litugy and ignore the crap.

Re: School Graduation Masses
Seems fairly open to me. But you haven't yet explained your criticism of organ playing in Liverpool and how you plan to help us.

Re: School Graduation Masses
We'd love a lot more organ playing in Liverpool churches – but finding organists is a different matter. I work across three churches. Two do not have organs and we'd make do with our lovely Clavinovas – but we can't find anyone to play those either. The third church has a magnificent organ which is ...

So what's the link between that particular organ – in the church where my grandfather sang in the choir – and your earlier statement?

Yes, I do mind – I care about such things. Simply explain what you mean. Surely that's not too much to ask.
