It would have been very helpful to have a quote to show what Nazard actually said, rather than having to scroll back through the entire thread to find the points made on the first page. <Netiquette rant off>

Re: Amazing Grace

Teaching on the Real Presence is undone in a trice if a congregation are invited to sing "He comes to me in sharing Bread and Wine" or "Too soon we rise the Symbols disappear" Why oh Why, do Priests (admittedly not ours)insist on these hymns? At the risk of being rebuked because...

Re: Robing

If robes are to be worn, the baptismal garment of all Christians is the alb, not the cassock and surplice. However, IMHO choirs only need to be robed if they are going to process - cf. the holes in Mrs Trellis's jeans. Otherwise, all the arguments already put forward about clericalization, separatio...

Re: Not sure about all this 'traditionalism'.

Redemptionis Sacramentum: [112.] Mass is celebrated either in Latin or in another language, provided that liturgical texts are used which have been approved according to the norm of law. Except in the case of celebrations of the Mass that are scheduled by the ecclesiastical authorities to take place...

Re: New translation

The word on the street is that this text may not be the last word. The 40 amendments that the US Bishops requested have not yet been responded to by the CDW, and it seems fairly certain that the acclamation "Christ has died", which is currently conspicuous by its absence, may be reinstated...

Re: Incidental Music for Mass

Wayne plays everything too fast - a shame, because he is an ambassador for organ music and making a bit of a mess due to excessive speed is not the best way to be one. It could be due to nerves, or due to the fact that he thinks that playing faster than anyone else puts him on top (it doesn't). Or p...

Re: Incidental Music for Mass

For fans of Taize music: Another little improvisatory gem on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AVRtgmyqto&NR=1 and a scary organ improvisation from the same performer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue7jHGluT5Y Have to say that I wasn't very impressed by either of these. The second one m...

Re: Pipes versus digital

asb is rather modestly not letting on that Jeremy Meager is the new managing director of Viscount, and that they are trying very hard to undo some of the problems that have arisen in the past because they subcontracted their installations to agents, some of whom were very good and some of whom were...

Re: Pipes versus digital

I have to say that I have listened to the Phoenix demo recordings, and I have also have had real Phoenix organs in churches demonstrated to me by the manufacturer and have played them. The difference is chalk and cheese. The recordings do sound good, but I suspect that this is because they have been...

Re: Pipes versus digital

There are many situations in which a sampled digital electronic can be a better solution than a pipe organ. Many of the continuo pipe organs that have been installed in RC churches in recent decades in pursuit of one particular consultant's ideology are unsuited for today's liturgical requirements. ...

Re: Year of St Paul

It is a decree posted on the Vatican website - has also been repeated by our Liturgy Office and on Zenit. One Mass for St Paul may be celebrated in every church on Sunday 25 Jan as part of the Year of St Paul, using the readings for the feast. Since it's a Sunday, a 2nd reading will be needed, which...

Re: Pipes versus digital

I can understand the concerns about the original Hammonds, which are now valuable collectors pieces because of their distinctive (by which I mean "not like a pipe organ") sound. Lest anyone should misunderstand, what the Congregation for Rites was asked about in 1938 was whether it was OK...

Re: Incidental Music for Mass

An amusing historical footnote: On 5 December 1938 the Sacred Congregation of Rites was asked if it would give its approval to the instrument known as a Hammond Organ. The Congregation's preliminary reply was negative, and was definitively confirmed on 4 September 1939. It appears that neither the C...

Re: Veneration of the Saints

It only gets transferred to the Sunday if it's on a Saturday or Monday. (Unlike Epiphany, Ascension, Corpus Christi, all Feasts of the Lord.)
