Re: Mass translation may be revised?
...and don't get me started on 'And also with you'!! I am reminded of the priest who felt that he had suddenly become inaudible. He looked up at the congregation and said: "There's something wrong with this microphone," and the congregation replied as one: "And also with you!"

Re: Mass translation may be revised?
I had hoped that this pope would leave liturgy alone, and concentrate on something else. Tinkering with the liturgy, although important, is not something that is going to bring the church into contact with the general public. It is now allowed for priests to say the Tridentine mass as they wish, and...

Re: Pipe Organs and Organists - Dying out?
Our organ and keyboard are connected to the same speakers through a mixer, so we can use the keyboard in trumpet voice for descants, with a second player, of course. That turns a few heads... If you are playing from a real trumpet part don't forget to set the keyboard down a tone or you will turn mo...

Re: Cremation, scattering, etc.
This shows a singular lack of understanding of creation. If you bury a body, it will be scattered as time goes by as a consequence of completely natural processes: digestion by bacteria and larger earth dwelling creatures, absorbtion by tree roots and fungi, etc, and in our present society the event...

Re: Only 20 hymns
There is a very basic point missing here. I fully support the idea that if a congregation isn't singing then it is an excellent idea to cut the repertoire down to just a few, probably less than the suggested twenty, and repeat it ad nauseam until they pick them up and are happy to join in. However, ...

Re: Liturgical Tourism
I know about "To you we raise our hands on high," but I always used to put my children down first. Maybe modern children are lighter.
When will they be putting "Ad te levamus manus in altum" back into the latin text? It seems to be missing at the moment.

Re: Noises off
We certainly suffer from this problem. Unfortunately, the choir are the worst offenders. I whinge at them about it on a regular basis, but this just seems to make them think I am some sort of nutter. Although I support their conclusion, I would prefer them to arrive at it by some other route. Perhap...

Re: Funeral Liturgies in Theory and in Practice
I sympathise, Oops. I have asked for the Tridentine rite for my funeral to hopefully remove any chance of this sort of thing. I have a vague memory of having seen some official document about the new rite saying that any sort of eulogy is strictly forbidden. If this is right, then it must count as o...

Has anyone else heard a reference to Stow on the Wold at the end of EP3? It is just right for us in Clifton diocese, of course.

I am seriously over excited by this project. I hope that everything goes smoothly and you finish with a truly worthy instrument.
I can only pray that our ageing toaster gets replaced by something as imaginative as this, although we have neither the space nor the budget to get anything so desirable.

An article worth reading, though reflecting a wider view of the liturgy? http://ncronline.org/blogs/faith-and-justice/suggested-agenda-new-prefect-congregation-divine-worship I hope that none of those suggestions ever come about. As for numbers dropping, ours have increased since the new translatio...

Re: Pope Francis moves to suppress liturgical abuses
Thank you, Thomas, for those singularly thoughtful remarks. Last year I had the funerals of my parents in law. On both occasions the priest did not leave the sanctuary to give us the sign of peace. I am grateful that he did not: I would have seen it as a singularly inappropriate gesture. He greeted ...
