Re: Music in Indian churches
I also have had interesting experiences of liturgical practice in India. I visit Goa for a month every January/February for the last 15 years. I stay in the little coastal village of Agonda in the South of Goa where the sfx fathers staff both school and church. Attendnace at both daily and Sunday ma...

Re: Pope's resignation
I think in the same way as some celebrated the anniversaries of his pontificate it may be appropriate to organise a diocesan/deanery/parish thanksgiving mass for the pontificate after 28 February and at the same time pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in appointing the successor. i do also thi...

Re: Worship Songs - enjoy the video ;)
Thanks Peter. I've always suspected this. Particularly liked the bit where the text projection got out of sync ... presenter omitted to mention that vital ingredient!

Re: Carols at Midnight Mass
We don't offer a carol service before the Night Mass but here is a list which shows what will be available from the buffet! CHRISTMAS ‘NIGHT’ MASS Organ Prelude: Dieu parmi nous – God among us (Olivier Messiaen) played by Philip Jakob Choral Prelude: Who heard the noise? (Bell) Introductory Rites Pr...

Re: 4 o'clock Vigil service?
As a prelude to our midnight 'Night' Mass I'll play Messiaen's 'Dieu parmi nous' then the choir will sing John Bell's Carol 'Have you heard the noise?' It seemed appropriate after the Messiaen!

Re: Funeral Liturgies in Theory and in Practice
It is always difficult to say no to relatives who are struggling to deal with the death of one they love and the immediate demands of the immediate aftermath. I tend to invite them to consider that the favourite song/moment they are wishing to re-kindle is precious in the hearts of immediate relativ...

True engagement in the rite
In a thread on the topic of Sacrosanctum Concilium 50 years on one commentator drew our attention to SC article 11 in which we are urged to have a true engagement with the rite rather than the rubric. 50 years on this deeper engagement can be frustrating. 50 years ago the balance between Word and Eu...

Re: Re-opening and dedication of Cathedral Church of St Mari
Thanks Anne. we blessed the font toda during the 1030 Mass. Unfortunately that wonderful sound system and most of the lights were kaput due to an electrical fault. Fortunately the replacement digital organ worked and I was able to rig up the powerful Diocesan portable sound system for choir, ambo, c...

Re: Re-opening and dedication of Cathedral Church of St Mari
Great to be back home in St Marie's tonight. About 250 people turned out on a wet and windy night for the Evening Prayer - Veneration - Night Prayer and very moving it was too.

Re: Re-opening and dedication of Cathedral Church of St Mari
I think you will still enjoy St Marie's ... it's a very different building to St Anne's. I cannot recall seeing any fences last night!

Re: Re-opening and dedication of Cathedral Church of St Mari
I was in the cathedral last night for a rehearsal with the Diocesan Choir, brass, woodwind, cantors and percussion. Previous visits had led me to think that the building work would never be completed on time but now it looks as though there may only be a few aspects outstanding. It has been a massiv...

I'm sure your info is correct also ... I suppose everyone boasted they studied with Dupre even if momentarily!
Organ Literature by Corliss Richard Arnold has him listed as a pupil of Joseph Jongen. Some people just have all the luck!

Re: 50 (or more) years on - Sacrosanctum Concilium
Reading references to Arinze and liturgical dance reminds me of one occasion when Cardinal Arinze visited the church of St Ignatius, Stamford Hill while I was musician there. After the 'pro Nigeria' Mass there was a reception at which he was honoured by 6 Nigerian women who danced for him provocativ...
