Re: Guide for Accompanying Mass

Any thoughts, SC, or Fr Peter? (I know if I single out just a couple many others will feel slighted and want to contribute. ) Q Good strategy Q - and I'm a bit busy with Schools - voluntary aided or Academies - at the moment - to say nothing of advice on several organs in the diocese. (But I'll get...

Re: 50 (or more) years on - Sacrosanctum Concilium

..........the question which Nick is trying to articulate is How do we make the Mass into a human celebration while respecting the rite itself? That's a real bone of contention for some people. The use of the vernacular made the Mass far too human to the neglect of the divine. Where's the "num...

My own preferred solution, when required - but yes, it can seem a bit odd.

Re-opening and dedication of Cathedral Church of St Marie

You are most welcome, Dunstan. I've changed the refrain melody and some of the SATB part-writing slightly, and added brass parts for this Friday's celebration. .. and thanks for the best wishes ... makes a change from discussing relic envy! LOL - I got a spare bit of St Margaret Mary in the safe - ...

I'm wondering where you have managed to obtain a bit of Bl John Henry Newman.......... not from his grave, certainly.

Re: 50 (or more) years on - Sacrosanctum Concilium

I think that you have a very valid point here. Fr Game-Show-Host has chosen disobedience rather than observance......... Objectively perhaps (or perhaps not - some priests have been attacked for tinkering with the liturgy when all they have been doing is acting according to norms that contain phras...

Re: 50 (or more) years on - Sacrosanctum Concilium

Do you really see that as an abuse? Compared with some practices it doesn't even register. Yes I do. Over to you if you want to suggest others that crept in which score higher on your scale. When, for example, this was published, my jaw dropped and I began to wonder what on earth some people were/h...

Re: 50 (or more) years on - Sacrosanctum Concilium

Do you have any practical advice to priests about how to achieve that desirable end, and to the laity on how to recognise that the priest has achieved it? Well for a start, focus on the presence of the Lord - where two or three are gathered - and recognise that "The grace of our Lord Jesus Chr...

Re: 50 (or more) years on - Sacrosanctum Concilium

How should a priest say the new mass? Not according your list of "various" and "new" faults above. How about "fully and consciously acting in the person of Christ"? (The priest "acts in the person of Christ" - in virtue of his ordination. This is a profound t...

Re: BJHN conference speech

We could have stepped through the window of opportunity, developed our offer to open new markets, re-branded the Church and adopted a new logo to replace the 'respected but dated' Crucifix..............Ah, how many of us have been along the jolly road of 'continuous improvement going forward'? I do...

Re: 50 (or more) years on - Sacrosanctum Concilium

............or because they found the priest's way of presiding at a revised Order of Mass in a way similar to the way he celebrated the Tridentine Mass simply too tedious........ Some years ago I did read an article on this. Many priests who were used to "putting on Christ" in the manner...

This is still an organically developing area of liturgical renewal.....or even better, "of our liturgical tradition."
