Re: International Declaration on Sacred Music "Cantate Domino"

Yes At first I thought there were no women but then I spotted some .... don't know the percentage though. So I was thinking then, how would it be if the plan was for the numbers to be even, equal, balanced. Would they have to leave out some of those illustrious men. Or would they have to enlist a lo...

Re: International Declaration on Sacred Music "Cantate Domino"

Been there done that VML. Those music practices in an unheated room in winter dark and just........ me. Is it the lack of respect the church has for musicians or the desperation of parish priests to find any music at all, that allows such torture to be acceptable. It is the curse of voluntary activi...

Re: International Declaration on Sacred Music "Cantate Domino"

I think I have already taken this thread off topic. So I may start another thread or the mods. can do. Glynn stated that music can be so awful in some places that it does not even qualify as musac to be piped into lifts. I agree. Sometimes I go places where the technical skills of the leadership are...

Re: International Declaration on Sacred Music "Cantate Domino"

Re: Mass translation may be revised?

This talk of re translation! It is like, we don't think we gave you the right words, last time and the time before, maybe the time before that. So. This time these are the right words. Sorry for making you say it wrong. It is like, this is the new and better curriculum, this one is better, we gave y...

Re: Pipe Organs and Organists - Dying out?

That is good Keitha.
Here is our organ project
www.holyfamilyls12.org.uk/christianheritageOH.html

the nattering about women organists above was in connection with the idea, that pipe organs are a emblems of Patriarchal Society - it is a confusion on this thread and should be ingored.

Re: Pipe Organs and Organists - Dying out?

Sorry for being confusing, it was very badly written - I mean if people are in a church and hear something they can identify with then that will encourage them to become more interested in church things generally like the treasury of Sacred Music. I was trying to suggest that pipe organ music and tr...

Re: Pipe Organs and Organists - Dying out?

yes but no Organs are not dying out yet. I've played three, one from the murky past, a nice modern Malcom Spinx, and a big digital. The big digital was the best because, like a keyboard, you can diddle it down a couple of tones. Transpose at the press of a button. They all sounded pretty much the sa...

Re: Pipe Organs and Organists - Dying out?

Sorry. Not grim. I suppose the words might be "more formal". I think we have to accept that there are other ways of celebrating the Mass which are not so formal. Like Polka Masses! It is not the restoration and maintenance of pipe organs which is a dead end. It is surrendering to the idea ...

Re: Pipe Organs and Organists - Dying out?

Not to be unkind to those who are seriously troubled by the demise of pipe organs and also capable organists - - the landscape in these parts if very different. In fact, I led the organ restoration fund in our rather poor parish - but always with the approach of " what are we doing spending all...

Re: Extraordinary Form

We were contemplating the fact that the Latin Mass requires males to do the serving etc. We have not yet mentioned that it is OK for a woman to serve if " she knows Latin" and does not move. So she can respond ( as on behalf of the congregation )- but not waltz around the altar doing moves...

Oh
I thought we were going to be able to have a competition offering a prize to the first person to spot the problem.
