Re: Ernest Sands

Sad indeed.

I remember when he came to Cardiff to lead a dayschool on music in the liturgy; he was funny and informative.
He said "If God has given you a lousy voice, then make sure that He gets to hear it".

May he rest in peace.

Re: Funeral Liturgies in Theory and in Practice

The problem with eulogies during the Requiem Masses/funeral services is that they simply don't fit. Punters in the pews feel that thay must stifle their laughter at the funny bits. The wake is the place for eulogising. Just a thought.

Re: Here is a cantor!

Many if not all of the other Papal Liturgies during his American visit were musically toe-curling mainly due to the over-use of cantors: * singing hymns via a microphone from the ambo even though a perfectly adequate choir is singing. * singing every single Vesper psalm verse into an ambo mic even t...

Re: Liturgical Tourism

I love the new translation (or the old translation if you're a 1970s convert from the Church in Wales). It has its flaws of course, any translation will.

And also with you - Urgh!

Alan suggested that one . . .
Can't do that on an organ.

Re: Music Animator required

I came across an animator once in Blackpool, it seems to be a fairly pointless, purposeless activity.

Re: Enrance Antiphon for Ss Peter & Paul - source?

Thanks for your responses. It is indeed interesting stuff.

I'm bewildered as to why the old Introit "Now I know that the Lord really has sent his angel and has delivered me out of the hands of Herod" (Acts 12: 11) was replaced.
I blame Cardinal Annibale.

Enrance Antiphon for Ss Peter & Paul - source?

Hello everyone, The Entrance Antiphon for Ss Peter and Paul - Mass during the day: These are the ones who, living in the flesh, planted the Church with their blood; they drank the chalice of the Lord and became the friends of God. I can't find the scriptural source of this. Can anyone enlighten me? ...

Re: School Masses

The Directory for Masses with Children,

I note that it's a 1973 Annibale Bugnini document. Does that help? Wasn't he a bit iffy? I'm open to fraternal/paternal correction.
