Amen.

Bishop Michael was a keynote speaker at our SSG summer school in Ditchingham two years ago. He struck me as a man of transparent goodness and great faith.

Re: GIRM adjustment

One of the remarkable things about the new Mass settings written for the new translation is that there are chant settings by composers (the Psallite composers, or Chris Walker, for instance) who twenty years ago perhaps wouldn't have considered writing in an idiom like that. We shall be using Chris...

Ah, but only if your priest sings!

SSG Summer School 2011 - last chance for discount!

If you're thinking of coming to summer school this year, just a reminder that the 'early bird' booking deadline (to receive a discount) is 1st May. Anyone who found Fr Alan Griffiths' contribution to the Composers' Seminars useful might be interested to know that he will be delivering a workshop on ...

Re: The New Texts: A Seminar for Composers

Judging by the verbal feedback and the evaluation forms, it would seem that the seminar was very well received, both in London and Salford. Composers and non-composers alike have reported that they found the event interesting and informative. Both days had the same format: Martin Foster (Liturgy Off...

Re: The New Texts: A Seminar for Composers

I'm Sure Mary will tell us what's happening .......... Mary? Well, I can confirm there are over 50 people signed up for the London Seminar and 30 for Manchester. They're not all composers, Nick! There are several parish MDs and others who are interested in the process. I'm sure that all those who a...

Re: New/Revised Mass Settings - Across the Pond

I am also aware of new through-settings of the Gloria by Alan Smith and Peter Jones that will be offered for assessment at the seminar for composers on 19th March and yes, Stephen Dean has indeed been busy. So the day WOULD have been of use to me after all! And I've cancelled now! It's not too late...

Re: Summer School 2011

The New Translation of the Missal - "Do not be afraid" (Lk 12:7) ? I'd have more idea of the real topic in those ten words. Nice! The Society should snap you up as its new marketing supremo. Indeed! We have a vacancy, presbyter. We can't pay you anything, and you'll work long hours and be...

Re: The New Texts: A Seminar for Composers

Can I just clarify a couple of things? This is an event that is aimed primarily at composers, but I believe it will be of interest to anyone involved in parish music. As for repertoire, Presbyter is correct; the purpose of the afternoon session is not to showcase new and revised settings, but in th...

Re: The New Texts: A Seminar for Composers

Even so, all sounds a tad heavy for we bears of smaller brain. Will leave it to the composers and look forward to their fruits in due course. No one could have a smaller brain than this bear, but I think I'll cope. I anticipate that it will be interesting and informative, but not heavy. Certainly n...

Re: How many planners?

We plan by committee in our parish. When our current MD took on the job, he said he would only do it if he had some help and so four or five of us have met regularly since then to plan the music. We also help with producing the weekly music sheets, setting up before Mass, tidying up afterwards, ferr...

Re: The New Texts: A Seminar for Composers

Flippin' heck! You blink and another 50 posts have been added! ....perhaps an indication of the timetable? This isn't set in stone, but it will go something like this: Timetable 10.15 Arrivals and tea/coffee 10.30 Introduction/Welcome/Prayer 10.45 Martin Foster - the rationale behind the new transla...
