Re: Canon Peter Jones

I first came across Peter when he was in his teens. He lived in Lillington and was at school at Leamington College for Boys. For a time, he played the organ in my parish, Our Lady, Lillington and I have a dim memory of a gangly youth accompanying the choir every Sunday. It was not until some 20 or s...

Re: Music Animator required

Hare wrote Hmm. Not wishing to be negative, but I would like to think that the clentele at this mass got a more varied diet than can be provided by a guitar-playing animator..... The animator with guitar skills is being sought for the 9.30 family Mass. This parish also has a choir, directed by Darqu...

Re: Sacred Music Conference

This was an excellent conference. Dom Henry Wansborough's keynote was terrific. The trustees should consider asking him to deliver the Crichton Lecture next year.

Re: Timothy Campbell RIP

I'm so sorry to hear this tragic news. Tim was a kind generous and gentle man. Summer school regulars will remember that he was always ready and willing to accompany acts in the concert. During the years I organised summer school, he was someone I could depend on to help with whatever was needed. Pr...

This is very sad news. Mike will be remembered fondly by very many people, especially young people, in Birmingham Archdiocese and beyond. He was a good man.

Re: Catholic influence on the wider Church

I know of several amateur "smallish instrumental groups consisting of guitars, ... singers ... and ... melody instruments ..." that sing and play well, use effective arrangements, and have a wide-ranging repertoire of good and appropriate music. They probably wouldn't call themselves folk...
