Re: Litany of Saints at The Easter Vigil

That's where we always put St Dunstan, our local boy.

Re: Weekday Psalms

It works OK in Ubuntu. Its a few years since I had to use 'doze (gloat, gloat), but if you select the text you want to copy and then use <CTRL> C it always used to copy OK.

Re: Holy Thursday eve - penitential rite

I have always seen the penitential rite included on Maunday Thursday. Surely, as it is part of mass you would need a specific instruction to exclude it. If such an instruction does exist, then obviously a fair few people haven't noticed it.

Well said - a bit of common sense there. I second everything you said.

Re: Ordering of options in GIRM

If you know a congregation that is capable of singing any of the Tracts in the Graduale , I'd be fascinated to know about them! It has long been the practice to use the official words, but a different musical setting. A far simpler setting than the gradulae would be required. As far as I know this ...

Re: Ordering of options in GIRM

Why does singing the tract exclude people while singing the acclamation does not?

Re: Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

The salary is hardly attractive. Didn't Clifton offer about three times that for a general administrator about a year back? It hardly suggests Liverpool take music very seriously. I'm glad I didn't choose to read music at university.

Re: 'A Big Heart Open To God'

That quote fascinates me. How do we derive any benefit from it? To decide on a matter infallibly all the faithful, however they are identified, have to agree about something, and how do you find out if that is the case?

Apart from that, I was pleased and inspired by what the pope said.

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

I am trying to get my head around the notion that having a special group of musicians performing at the assembly is leaving peoples' egos out of the equation. This is a very general criticism which can be levelled at anyone doing anything for the parish. Is the chap up that shaky ladder trying to f...

The Magic Roundabout Theme - you have set my mind going. I must find a liturgical use for it. Any ideas anyone?

Re: Out with the Inwood, and in with the oldwood

I don't think the intention was to cater to ancient romans. I think the idea is just so as to avoid giving the impression that any one section of the population was being favoured over the others. Anyone for a Gloria in broad yam yam?

Re: Catholic influence on the wider Church

This thread is going on gloriously meaninglessly - actually even worse that that, it can mean whatever any reader wants it to mean. I have been taught over the years what constitues a bad performance: poor intonation, musicians not together, errors in counting and so on ad inf. Good performance rest...
