Re: Service of the Word & Holy Communion
The parish my mum was in had SW&HC 3 times a week even though there were two resident priests. They had better things to do so left it to the lay people and is another reason I now avoid such services.

Re: Introducing settings of new translations
Good points Fr Gareth. Of course, I suppose there are not many priests who have ever seen SW&HC because if they are there, then surely we could have Mass! As a layperson who has been at such services, they vary. The first one I ever attended was in Canada back in the 1980s and it was very confus...

Re: Music Workshops
Psalm Project, I used to run this kind of event and believe me, no-one ever came forward and helped with the costs. If I did not get enough people through the door to cover the costs of photocopying fliers, postage, venue hire, drinks and fee then it was my pocket that was hit. One of the reasons I ...

Re: Music Workshops
I think I would like something concentrating on just one Mass. For example, It is assumed everyone knows Inwood's Gathering Mass* but how many newer members to choirs have had the opportunity to learn it, hear it in a simple one line format, additional lines, etc? Take time to explore all the bits a...

Re: Special ascii characters useful to musicians & liturgists
but it isn't a million miles away from the topic and is providing some light relief.
We could argue about which ascii characters are the most useful if you prefer. You should know us by now, we will argue about anything given the chance.
Please don't over-moderate the forum.

Re: St Therese
The numbers have taken us by surprise. It appears there were not enough volunteers to cover everything and I feel bad as I didn't volunteer as this is just not my thing at all. However, with the numbers involved, instead of a few volunteers dotted around to point people to book shops, tea and coffee...

Re: St Therese
Interesting at Mass this morning. MCB will be posting on the blog everything that we sung so I won't repeat it here. However, there was quite a bit of plainchant to cater for the visitors but from where I was, it seemed the Mass part they joined in with more than any other was the Inwood Gathering M...

Where is the Health and Safety person? The sad part is that people will be buying those statues.

Re: Papal Visit, September 2010
I did not know any of that side around the last papal visit. The only negative I knew was that all the hype around his visit to Manchester and that we were going to be swamped with around 2 million visitors actually put off some parents from even attempting to take their children to the venue. But a...

Re: Papal Visit, September 2010
So we probably won't have the big open air Masses we had with JPII. Has got me thinking already. Back in 1982 the event in Manchester had a choir of over 3,000 made up of the regular parish choirs. There was some criticism of that attitude as the music was not sung perfectly and some thought that wa...

Re: St Therese
There will be exposition whilst the relics are at Salford too and I also thought it was odd. I do know that initially they thought there may be a few people turning up but hopefully they are preparing for crowds.
