Re: 'A Big Heart Open To God'
That quote fascinates me. How do we derive any benefit from it? To decide on a matter infallibly all the faithful, however they are identified, have to agree about something, and how do you find out if that is the case? This refers to the consensus fidelium . As a start, an Internet search will qui...

Quite so. And in the 1933 edition too, of course (which is probably the one that most of us have).

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?
Note too that an important 'driver' behind all this is liturgy. If music changes with liturgy then we can expect a church music style (and output) to proceed in 'fits and starts'. Great surges of 'new music' coming out with each significant change in liturgy followed by periods of 'consolidation' -...

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?
Thank you; I'm sure we all appreciate that. The SSG and its forum is a broad church and all reasoned argument and opinion is welcome. I hope we'll be hearing much more from you.

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?
I think many of us will have made a similarly catholic selection (mine is perhaps slightly more 'traditional' than yours this week). I suspect too that there is much more that unites us than that threatens to divide us. Our local variations reflect our local differences - which is, I think, what pro...

Re: Father Peter Jones
Fr Peter takes up his new posting as parish priest of Holy Redeemer, Pershore, this week. His most distinguished predecessor there was Monsignor James Crichton, who also designed the present church building.
I'm sure we all join with Gwyn in wishing Fr Peter well.

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?
What Southern Comfort says about the Propers is correct. What IncenseTom says about them used to be the case but is no longer. Wishing it still were so - however earnestly and sincerely - does not make it so. I choose to underline this only because I would not want any less experienced or less confi...

Universa Laus 2013
(reposted from FaceBook) I have just returned from Universa Laus 2013 at Worth Abbey, an international meeting of RC liturgical musicians. UL was founded just after the Second Vatican Council by Gelineau, Huijbers and others to foster the study and implementation of the Council - which, in this the...

Advent responsary
Can anyone point me to an online source for Aspiciens a longe , the Matins responsary for the first Sunday of Advent? There are plenty of recordings of it, but I am after the chant notation. Alternatively, perhaps someone who has it could PM me with a scan? It doesn't have to be tidy, because I will...
