Re: Palm Sunday for guitars and flute

So.....what did you think of our Palm Sunday efforts? I thought it an appropriate selection, with sensitive use of the instruments available to you, HP (e.g. the plucked accompaniment to the Offertory hymn). Some contributors have already queried whether it's appropriate to have a recessional hymn ...

Re: Gelineau - The Lord is my Shepherd - guitar chords?

" Twenty-four Psalms and Canticle " is precisely the copy I found in our choir loft; but as I said, it's from even further back - 1955. But it also is held togethr by sticky tape (other brands of tape are available!!) "My shepherd is the Lord" is exactly the same as in my copy of...

Re: Notation software

Yes, I like it too, and it can turn midi files to score (less widely available than sibelius, etc, but quite a lot of cpdl scores have them). What is vastly annoying about it for the sort of stuff that I have to set is that there's no free rhythm setting: every bar has to have a defined time signat...

Re: Teaching New Music.....

We have two churches in our small town that have, traditionally, had a very different repertoire of hymns - north side more 19th/early 20th Century, south side more late 20th Century. Family commitments meant that we switched from south side to north side where I now run our music group for the Vigi...

It is indeed - but with no guitar chords in the Melody/Guitar edition, alas.

Re: Gelineau - The Lord is my Shepherd - guitar chords?

Indeed, the vast majority of what I play (liturgical or Irish folk) is in the Key of G, sometimes D and, if I am feeling adventurous or fool-hardy, C. Limited....but that's what the capo is for!! Thanks for the chords. I have tweaked it a little (two or three added A or Bm chords) but it sounds grea...

Re: Gelineau - The Lord is my Shepherd - guitar chords?

And you even guessed that I needed the simple chord version!! :D Thanks, I will start working on that now.

Would you recommend any other Gelineau Psalms as being worthy of merit? As I said, until the funeral I was unaware of them.

Re: Gelineau - The Lord is my Shepherd - guitar chords?

You have renewed this old cynic's belief in the goodness of human nature. Many thanks for your kind offer. I had never come across it until I was asked to sing it at the funeral of the adopted son of friends of ours. I found an old 1955 copy in the filing cabinet of our choir loft and learnt it from...

Gelineau - The Lord is my Shepherd - guitar chords?

I don't suppose anyone knows where I might get hold of guitar chords for the Gelineau version of "The Lord is my shepherd" (with the 1st Antiphon - "My shepherd is the Lord, nothing indeed shall I want")? I have made a start; but if there is a source out there it would make life ...

Re: Liturgically Inappropriate Music

I would say that much Taize music is prayerful, dignified and beautiful, therefore to be admitted into the sphere of te sacred, but others here have dismissed it at least one such piece as "Broadway Tune", so precluding its entry. As a music theorist, I really don't see how any of the Tai...

Re: Notation software

Just going through some old threads..... After a hopeful search on t'internet about eight months ago I came across MuseScore. I have been very impressed with how powerful this piece of free software is. I use it mostly for when I set a Psalm response to music and when I want to provide a harmony lin...

Re: Palm Sunday for guitars and flute

Hello HP and Q. HP, you are very welcome to this forum, and it is good to see someone who is working hard to keep a music group going posting here and asking for input. You say you have no formal musical training, which probably goes for a majority of liturgical guitar players. However you clearly ...

Re: Palm Sunday for guitars and flute

We have a situation where the only musical resources for our main Palm Sunday Mass will be some guitars and a flute. It's been a pain to plan because most of the music for Palm Sunday is not really suited to these resources. So this is what we're using, it may help if anyone has the same issues: Pr...

Re: Renewal of Baptismal promises on Easter Day

Hello. Newbee here.

I was at Ampleforth for the Triduum where, during the sprinkling after the renewal of Baptismal promises, we sang "I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity". It was a rousing affirmation of the promises we had just renewed.
