Re: The Processional

A question that keeps coming back is whether Psallite renders it unnecessary to set the Processional. I don't think that a collection which sets antiphon texts should prevent anyone else setting the same texts. Psallite, like all such collections, is a curate's egg. Composers should not feel the ne...

Re: The 'official' Magnificat

Do you mean a setting of the 'official' text or a setting of the 'official' text using the 'official' tune? I'm not sure either exist, though the text in the Office (at least the M&E Prayer I have) and Lectionary is Grail (but, I think, different versions (nothingness vs lowliness.)) There is a ...

Re: BBC1 Midnight Mass from Southwark RC Cathedral

the final hymn (O come all ye faithful) Oft have I mused on the thought processes which site this hymn as a recessional. To my very literal scientific mind, the clue to its logical placement lies in the verb in the title (and indeed in the refrain). Perhaps I'm taking the phrase "O come" ...

Re: Bumper Music & Liturgy

The latest issue has just landed on the mat with a great thud – it's huge! Delighted to see the Music Planner now goes up to the end of May (Pentecost Sunday) But traditionally an issue has landed on the mat about now with the summer school booking form in it. The Planner extending so far in advanc...

Re: What are the people saying about the new translation?

I wonder if they have ever been really listened to. I have often felt that they function rather like "repeat until ready bars." I suspect you're right. 30 seconds after the collect etc are proclaimed I would not be able to tell you what was said. This was true in the old translation and r...

Re: Happy Advent

This is the running order for the 2nd Sunday of Advent for the parish in which I live, but no longer worship (for some reason they still send me the music list now and again even though they haven't seen me since May) Entrance On Jordan’s bank the Baptists cry 94 Gloria Berthier 528 Psalm Response ‘...

This is not a thread to chastise those who are not following the documents. It's a thread to find out what happens at the moment. It's a thread to comment on the documents. It's a thread to discover what works well and what doesn't. Where I was organist previously a communion processional was start...

Are such additions/extensions to the rites fairly commonplace? Why is there a feeling that they are needed, in some places?

In contrast to GF's experience, other than sometimes (rarely) a dismissal of EMHCs taking communion to the sick (cf CTM 220, 221) I've never encountered such additions.
