Re: The wickedness of face cream

Has anyone noticed the heresy in the second verse of Crown Him With Many Crowns, i.e. "fruit of the Mystic, Rose".

Re: Archbishop of Westminster

Perhaps the Vatican does consider the Archisbishop of Westminster to have some sort of overall leadership role in England & Wales, otherwise, why not leave Archbishop Nicholls in Birmingham and give him the red hat in due course, with a strong hint to the Hierarchy that they should elect him as ...

Re: Terrors of the Triduum

Thursday: Father freezes after singing the first line of the Doxology "Through Him, With Him, In Him" - Long pregnant pause with organ chord - till I sing the next line from the organ and we both sing the rest of it!!! Friday: One of the hymns at the veneration is "Here is Love"....

Re: Baptisms en masse

In England, every Baptist church has a large permanent font for total immersion, discreetly hidden when Baptisms aren't taking place. The thing that really tickles me about them is that the water is heated - very sensible when you think about it. Come on Church! What great symbolic value to have Bap...

Re: Mothering Sunday

As Southern Comfort says, it's not the rite (I'm old enough to know examples of dire Tridentine abuses). If I remember correctly, the Tridentine Mass does not contain Prayers of the Faithful nor was it permitted to introduce the Mass after the priest arrived at the altar. Sermons were rare, so Mothe...

Re: Mothering Sunday

I was visiting a church in North Wales (Saturday vigil). No mention of Mothering Sunday at all; no mention of Laetare Sunday (no flowers on show); no music; EP2, sermon was a few minutes on doing some penance for Lent if you haven't already started as an acknowledgement of our need for forgiveness a...

And of course, we should try to remember to thank others who contribute as often as we like to be thanked: priests, deacons, servers, cleaners, repository volunteers, catechists, etc.etc.etc.etc. It does encourage all of us.

Re: Incidental Music for Mass

OK, here are some suggestions for Sundays 5,6 & 7. (including Boyce and Stanley). As requested there are links to the scores for all the suggestions and soundfiles for some of them: Sunday 5 Start: Bach, BWV721 Erbaum Dich Mein, o Herre Gott. A recitalist once told the story of how he was guest ...

Hello Claire, will do, but it may not be for a week or so - I assume you are referring to Sundays 5, 6 and 7?

It is extremely tempting - but there is that bit about not judging others... which I do all the time, of course! These folk seem to have an awful lot of influence - are there really that many of them?

Re: Teaching the teachers

Probably best to assume that the majority of teachers in catholic schools are at the best lapsed catholics. Alan I wouldn't disagree - so what is the Church doing about it? Another problem with our schools is that we pretend that we are educating for something other than success in exams - but then...

Re: Ding Dong Merrily on high - need pronunciation help

A further thought on Latin pronunciation. I spent 2 years in Northern Spain and they have their own (Arab influenced) pronunciation. G's in the middle of a word and J's are aspirated with the kind of h aspiration you use to clear your throat)..., and C's are pronounced 'th' so the start of the Glori...
