Re: Clifford Longley on the Missal translation
I enjoy Clifford Longley's thought-provoking articles but tend to agree with the comments expressed here. If English isn't a good language for Liturgy, how come the Book of Common Prayer, the Authorised Version and our own RC Douai Version served their various liturgical functions so well for so man...

Re: What if we just said, 'wait'
To pick up on the point made by Presbyter, are we heading back to the situation where we had blacklists and white lists for liturgical music?

Re: The disaster that is Christmas
Well, its almost here: Services and Masses galore! Just off for a 90 minute choir rehearsal. Good Luck and God be with us all during the various rehearsals, Carol Services, Masses today and tomorrow as well as Saturday and Sunday. Let's hope we can find some family time for the 'God Rest Ye Merry Ge...

Re: Meerkat
I've been following this thread with interest as I'd like a practice organ at home. The other treats I'm buying are a running machine (haven't been out running in the snow for the first year ever) and a new computer. It looks as though I'll be investigating Viscount and Phoenix for the organ from wh...

Re: What do I do with the Advent Wreath now?
If I remember correctly, our Advent Wreath stays on the Sanctuary over the whole Christmas period with all 5 candles lit. I personally like the way we do it. I understand there is some debate as to whether the Advent Wreath should be part of the Liturgy in the church. The Vatican's Directory on Popu...

Re: Bloopers and Typos
A certain department store could be busy at midnight Christmas Eve, judging from the Mass list in a certain newsletter:
11.30 pm Carol Service
12.00 midnight John Lewis

Re: The disaster that is Christmas
Oops, I sympathise, but I guess that on the day your choir will be full of people who have not practised and everyone will have a great time. These are great occasions for memories; for example: As a lad before Vatican II, I was playing Adeste Fideles for the procession into Midnight Mass, when the ...

Yes a lovely church with beautiful artwork. Also a superb website - particularly impressed by the large number of people involved in various ministries.

Re: Course for youth music - Genoa - Nov 2009
Bless! They must have been thinking about different young people to those I've encountered! I wonder whether 'young peoples' liturgies will change in response to this? It does appear that, unlike Jesus and Peter, many of the influential voices in the Vatican have lived completely different lives fro...

Re: Unity with Liturgical Diversity
I have a concern that people reading this particular thread might question whether we would welcome the new Ordinariate to our Church. Not only that, but one could perceive a lack of unity among ourselves - but we are all Catholics and working together for the Kingdom at a time when, in England, hos...

Re: Swine flu
Hopefully, everyone who is advocating that people should stay away from work when they have a cold or 'flu won't object when Sunday Masses have to be cancelled because the priest has a cold/'flu.
Personally, I think the panic is way over the top - we're not dealing with the Plague here.

Re: Real men don't eat quiche...
I eat quiche too, Presbyter. What an odd Mail article. In the Catholic Church we men have little to complain about - after all the church was founded by men, is led by men and has a liturgy drawn up by men. Much of the music used (especially that which Rome wants us to use - plainchant & polypho...
