Is there an anorak out there who can fill me in?

Dangerous question. This forum could get a week's conversation simply out what colour the anorak should be, before some wag starts a thread to identify the vestment most likely to denote encyclopaedic knowledge of the byways of liturgical reform.

Would you please welcome a section of the choir: don't upset any of these formidable ladies: the sopranos are a real local mafia.

Look - there´s that group of women who sit at the back - (Maarit, Maureen, Marie, Maria, Marika, Marion, Mercedes, Moira, Marilyn and Marietta). Good to see them here, they´re getting on a bit, although it´s surprising to see them talking to the parish priest - they can't stand him. But Glory Be!...

Properly, if perhaps a little traditionally, dressed, are Katherine ("Kaz") Sock and Sir Paul Ice.

At university, she was of course known as Kath.

Is anybody still using any other items from the Coventry Mass? I always thought the Veni Sancte Spiritus was rather good, and we used it for a few years where I grew up, but haven't heard it in ages, or seen it in any books recently.

My wife and I enjoy evensong - could it be that in heaven they use Anglican chant? You can't say that - they're Protestants - they're going to the other place*. I have to confess that I adore Anglican chant: if the singers are paying attention to the meaning of the words and put the stresses in sen...

Who said the Congregation can't sing the verses of a Responsorial Gloria? Good point well argued. And I don't dislike the Coventry Gloria as such (after I eventually got the hang of playing that fourth beat semiquaver twiddle that introduces the refrain in the right place - rhythm has never been my...

Gloria

I'm using the Gloria from Owen Alstott's Heritage Mass ( http://www.ocp.org ). It is simple, very singable and involves the congregation singing all the words, straight through, once. I'm not fond of Responsorial Glorias - the logic seems to be, first, artificially break up (or rewrite) the words of...

Ornery Time

I was going to post last weekend, I was wondering if anybody else had that 'Well that's Easter out of the way, relax a bit and then blow the dust off Carols for Choirs' feeling. [apologies if any of what follows is liturgical thoughtcrime - it's just my opinion...] I do find something incredibly res...

Not suggesting that he wasn't expressing deeply or honestly held beliefs, and would accept that my comments may have been uncharitably phrased. As regards blithe dismissals, I suppose I should give some arguments to be shot down in flames. #1 - as a human living in England in the C21, his preference...

Well, yes, I do, but (aged 34) I obviously don't have any personal memory of either the Council or of what went before, and neither do I have any academic training in these matters. I have to rely on instinct and personal experience to evaluate what I see and hear (and in this example, which is why ...

The Bishops are free to ask the opinions of anyone they choose. How they do that is up to them. ...I was wondering about the opinions of the people they might not necessarily choose (or of whom it might not occur to them to ask)... Perhaps this would be the appropriate forum for a dispassionate tre...

Very diplomatically put, presbyter. But it's unfortunately easy enough to see why the press are interested - for the mainstream papers it boils down very nicely into a row between 'traditionalists' and 'modernists' (juicy parallels with the C of E). And I suppose Phil Space in the Catholic press is ...
