Re: New facebook Group
Although as SC said, it seems to be catering for a particular niche.

Re: New facebook Group
Oops! I didn't know about "Musicky...."
I would have thought twice about creating a group had I known. I honestly thought I was filling a gap, not competing...!

Re: New facebook Group
On the contrary! Re Moderation, I monitor every post and have within the last couple of days removed a topic, turned off Commenting on another, and removed a member. Not all Facebook groups are moderated well, but a great many are - and very well.

Re: New facebook Group
Absolutely - it was not intended to compete with this forum in any way. What SC said has turned out to be the case; I hope this cross fertilization will be useful all round. I also intended it to be primarily for Organists (and singers). There was an attempt some 20 years ago to start up a Catholic ...

New facebook Group
I have it on good authority that a new Facebook group for UK Catholic organists, choirs and cantors was NOT set up to compete with this forum, but rather to give such musicians a presence/platform on Facebook. If anyone is interested, do consider joining... https://www.facebook.com/groups/2321504161...

Re: Pipe organ St John's Cathedral, Salford
I can remember hearing it in broadcasts, but never played it. Last time I was there was in 1994; the console was in the South aisle I think and the pipework in a west gallery. All looked pretty dilapidated IIRC. Quite a large 2-manual, with 16 8 4 Great reeds. Jardine rebuild of the old Compton whic...

Re: Pentecost sequence.
That particular tune is one I really, really dislike. All those crotchets, one after another. There must be an alternative ........ I have found recordings on YouTube that uses essentially the same tune as found in Celebration Hymnal, but with a few dotted crotchets rather than the relentless strea...

Re: Pentecost sequence.
The CC Sequence is optional. We've never used it.... We've never used it either. In fact CC is a dead duck in our parish, despite priests reinstating some form of procession from time to time. As regards the Pentecost Sequence, I'll mention the Veni Sancte Spritus by Walker and the one from Taize, ...

Re: Easter Octave
I am aware of what the Missal says but it does seem something of an anomaly. On all other Solemnities the Creed is said whether it be Sunday or weekday. When you celebrate an octave of Solemnities it is only Sunday? I am with you now - interesting point! I wonder if there is anything to do with the...

Re: Easter Octave
My understanding (FWIW) is that the Gloria is said/sung on every day of Easter week, but the Creed ... only on Easter Sunday and the 2nd Sunday of Easter... That's what my Weekday Missal says. However, it also adds that the Easter Sequence may be said or sung every day during Easter week - is that ...

Re: Easter Octave
My understanding (FWIW) is that the Gloria is said/sung on every day of Easter week, but the Creed / Renewal of Baptismal Promises only on Easter Sunday and the 2nd Sunday of Easter - and that the Dismissal with double Alleluias is used through to Pentecost Sunday.
