Re: Ding Dong Merrily on high - need pronunciation help
As for Ee-o or Aye-o, I know that there is an explanation of the derivation of the expression, but I don't recall what it is - I'm sure someone on this forum will know it. For the pronunciation I would refer to the "Adeste Fideles" - "Cantet nunc "Io" chorus angelorum"...

And in verse 2, Eye-Oh or Eee-Oh?
Eck-shel-seess or Egg-shel-seess - either will do. The first is better, the second easier for choir people to remember.
Eee-Oh! (Way to remember - think of American Yee-Haw! which means the same thing, in fact.)

Re: Teaching the teachers
This morning's Mass was hijacked by our primary school. <snip> It's the lack of energy really, that is what upsets me. Also the lack of communication. The lack of organisation and vision. The inability of our school to enliven the pupils to any kind of purpose within the Church. Same here this morn...

Re: Music for weddings
The main problem I have found is the vast majority of the congregation are not church-goers, so they don't have a scooby-doo and don't sing along anyway. So such "celebrations" are reduced to the sound of Father Baritune and his housekeeper, the Widow Tenoroon, warbling in exact unison, j...

Re: Reviving our music
By the look of this , ICEL will allow settings of their texts to be downloadable free of charge. But they will require approval from the relevant national liturgy office for each individual setting made available in that way. I think that's what the letter from ICEL in that link says. M. Indeed it ...

Or (from the Archdiocese of Dublin list of 20 banned hymns):
Yesterday [all my troubles seemed so far away - now I know that they are here to stay]
Lady in Red
Time in a Bottle
and my favourite
Help me make it through the night

Re: Reviving our music
The translations don't have anything to do with the conferences of bishops requesting permission to use them I am probably being very dim, but I do not understand this. For me - and any other composer/arranger - the key question is who holds the copyright. My understanding is that the same situatio...

Re: Reviving our music
Thomas - The translations don't have anything to do with the conferences of bishops requesting permission to use them. I don't think you'll find the new Grail too American, or Kenyan, or anything else. It'll just be "Grail-ian".

Re: Grail IV now definitely on the way
This significant step paves the way for a time when the same liturgical psalter will be in use throughout the entire English-speaking world. The England and Wales Conference had already made it known that they would adopt Grail IV in a new Lectionary making use of the NRSV scripture translation. Do...

Re: Authentic Liturgy....
However, do people really object to anglican phraseology? As far as I am aware, the revised missal uses this sort of language, with '...and with your spirit'; 'thwart'; 'wrought'; 'gibbett'; 'ineffable' etc.' That's in large part because the general secretary of ICEL and a number of his co-translat...

Grail IV now definitely on the way
Over two months ago, the Bishops of Kenya in the course of revising their liturgical books were due to apply to Rome for a recognitio for the revised Grail psalter. The CDW had already indicated that there would be no problem approving this request when they received it. The US Bishops have now them...

Re: Authentic Liturgy....
This extract from LA 40 seems to be directed at two things: (1) "Here endeth the lesson" and other examples of phraseology which come across as distinctly Anglican in tone; (2) EPs where the phraseology does not convey that transubstantiation is necessarily believed in by the participants....

Today's guess at when new Missal will come in
At today's meeting of the US Bishops' Conference, their chief liturgy bishop is reported as follows: The Proper of Seasons is one part of the much-anticipated new translation of the Roman Missal, the comprehensive collection of prayers and other texts for the Mass. During brief floor discussion yest...
