St Patrick

Last year, some eejit repainted our sanctuary area "municipal-baths-blue" and when I observed that some of the hangings (especially green!) would clash, someone (a Catechist to boot!) asked, quite sincerely, why we couldn't have some blue ones made to match..........Give me strength!

Triduum query

Getting off-topic here, but you have my sympathy! A lady in an electric wheelchair ran over my foot one Christmas Eve - No "Dieu Parmi Nous" after Midnight Mass that year!!

Back on topic- thanks Presbyter. My wife laid a bet you would be the 1st reply!

Triduum query

Have just returned from meeting with PP and MC re Holy Week ceremonies. PP says that after Silent Adoration on Holy Thursday, The Blessed Sacrament is removed from the Altar Of Repose to another "place of repose" (in this case the Presbytery airing cupboard!) and brought thence on Good Friday for th...

Can anyone help find a hymn please?

I need to get hold of a copy of the words and music of "Count your many blessings, name them one by one" or be pointed in the direction of which book it may be in - requested for a funeral.

If anyone could help, a scanned copy to me by e-mail would be fantastic!

Many thanks everyone!

In quires and places....

I always observe the "no organ voluntaries in Lent except for Laetare Sunday and solemnities" rule, and yet I have seen 2 RC cathedrals advertsising organ voluntaries on their music lists. My own PP says "its just a suggestion"

Who is right here please?

Catholic Musicians - in the congregation?

A couple of points, not directly picking up on comments already made, but definitely "on-topic". 1. A lady who only attends rarely (i.e when the PP is away - he has upset her by not addressing some serious issues she has about the parish) was there last week, and she sings her socks off. She inspire...

A tune by any other name

As an ex-Anglican, I refer to hymn TUNES - eg; what TUNE shall we use for "Praise to the Holiest"? Since becoming a Catholic, lifelong Catholics (round here anyyay) seem to refer to hymn tunes as "AIRS". Yes, I do know what Air means in this context; I just wonder why the term is used by Catholics ...

Sunday Evening Prayer

Please can this not become a Mayhew-bashing thread? I have no axe to grind, but my organ repertoire has been enriched by KM's publications, as has my congregation's repertoire. As with any catalogue, you pick and choose. I have never used the Alan Rees, but I have a copy. For a parish with vision, a...

Paul Inwood in The Tablet

During this morning's homily (I'd heard it twice already!) I read an article in The Tablet on parish music by Paul Inwood. (I think it was an early October edition) While it didn't, at least to me, say anything radically new, it gave a good concise history of liturgical music up to the prtesent day,...
