Re: Musical accompaniment on Good Friday
I am waiting for an explanation from Thomas Muir of his spurious allusion to St Thomas More Group.

Re: The Holy Year of Mercy - are we doing anything?
What about Liturgy of the Word and Washing of Feet. I have done this on several occasions, last week in Canada being one. It is used frequently by L'Arche Community and when its Liverpool contingent visited Iona in 1998 they brought this with them. The complete text is included in HOLY GROUND publis...

Re: The Holy Year of Mercy - are we doing anything?
I've just been reading the homily of Cardinal Nichols at the 'Red Mass' on October 1 in which he widened the Jubilee Year of Mercy beyond liturgy. You can read his homily on seasoning justice with mercy on Independent Catholic News. It seems that this is not dissimilar to Pope Francis urging prisons...

Re: Journal
Thanks John. I already see reports on Facebook that it is a good one. I look forward to seeing a copy as it wafts its way across the Atlantic.

Re: The Holy Year of Mercy - are we doing anything?
I am hoping that we will raise the status of the Penitential Act at St Lawrence in Tampa. Over here in US the Deacon can say/sing the dialogue versions. I am hoping the deacon will sing this unless the first formula of the 'I confess' is used. Paul Inwood's chant for the Year of Mercy will definitel...

When is the next Journal coming out or have I missed it? I understand that things may possibly be delayed with staff changes.
Peace to all from the outskirts ... would have written that in latin but couldn't recall the ablative of limina!

SC, I'm searching for a response but can only recall Oscar Wilde's ..'It's nothing personal, it's just you!' In my previous existence in St Marie Cathedral, Sheffield we used to manage a choral piece followed by a hymn and often some further organ improvisation. Incense was involved which happily pr...

O clap your hands
Come one, be honest ... how many of you disobeyed the psalmist's instruction in the first verse of the ascension Psalm and did not entertain clapping?
In deepest Florida we sang my setting of the psalm (46/47) with trumpets blaring and palms a-clappin' ... all in the best possible taste, of course!

Blessing and sprinkling
I am watching the Mass of Easter from Rome and at the same time feeling a brief rainfall in Florida and am left wondering if there is ever a precedent for blessing the water which falls from God as an alternative sprinkling rite. it strikes me that there is not. Such a blessing would be more effecti...

Re: ICEL Notation
In deepest Florida I thought I'd check what chant was going to be used for that moment also. Such impertinence on my behalf! Our priest warbled something I had never before heard the text of which did not reflect the current Missal. The response, however, did! At the end of our Passion liturgy a tom...

Re: Music and Liturgy.
I have only just seen Maryfa's original posting. I hope we can avoid remembering Kieran Conry as a 'disgraced' bishop. In my limited exposure to him he was most impressive and liturgically very sensitive to the intentions of Vatican 2 and I have every reason to believe he gave many years of himself ...

I think the previous writer may be referring in part to me! Yes, it is true that the post of Director of Music for the Cathedral & Diocese of Hallam was declared redundant a year ago. I would like to think that the post enabled me to provide just the type of support to musicians and clergy that ...

Re: Reception by eucharistic ministers
Keraulophon writes, "Yet the newly published Parish Mass Books used in our parish (from McCrimmons) quote an official source to say that it is most appropriate for the ministers to go up to the altar as the Sign of Peace is being exchanged." (see above) I wonder if there is confusion here ...

Re: Reception by eucharistic ministers
Southern Comfort writes But it seems from what Phil said that his pastor may be interpreting the ruling in a very narrow fashion. I was trying to give him some ammunition for a discussion. I would want to say that the Pastor understands and applies a collaborative approach like few I ever encountere...
