Re: So sad
Our congregation who previously sang lustily are now all but silent. The fact that our pp has asked for mask wearing to continue hasn't helped. Neither has the fact that a whole tranche of young families have not returned or have changed to an earlier Sunday Mass to have more of the day "free.&...

Re: Limited supply of Psalmists for the Easter Vigil
Point taken about reading the psalms. I was actually thinking that a combination of one sung, one read and one replaced with silence might work, especially if it made for a contrast before the Alleluia. We are fortunate to have five psalmists, six if I can persuade the bobby to get his shifts sorted...

They can be read, or replaced with silence.

Re: " . . Old forgotten far-off things, and battles long ago"
One effect of the pandemic at ours (where I am semi-retired, so no longer responsible for planning but only play) is that we have reverted to a four hymn sandwich and no longer sing the Mass apart from the psalm - which is my kingdom inviolable. I really loathe the expression "lowest common den...

Re: " . . Old forgotten far-off things, and battles long ago"
Our congregation which used to sing the Mass lustily now is barely audible through their masks during the four hymns that all our PP allows. Its very, very sad. Would love to ask your PP why the virus is a less of a risk during hymns that it would be during the bits we're supposed to be singing! 8)...

Re: New Guidelines from the Bishops Conference of England & Wales
Our PP would seem to have either not read them or has no interest in implementing them.

Re: " . . Old forgotten far-off things, and battles long ago"
In the last 10 years or so, singing the Mass has been dealt two massive body blows. The first was the revised translation. And the second has been Covid. Our congregation which used to sing the Mass lustily now is barely audible through their masks during the four hymns that all our PP allows. Its v...

Re: Mill Hill Chapel
Not really liturgy, but there is a beautiful Unitarian Church in Liverpool. Financed by the likes of the founder of Tate and Lyle in the Arts and Craft style. It boasts a fine William Hill organ.
Judging by its website it is very active.

Re: The post-Christmas period
Our PP has decided that he will keep the usual two Sunday Masses but have no music on the 26th.
For which, many thanks!

Would I be right in thinking that a Papal MC carries a lot of clout beyond controlling errant altar servers?

I agree S.C.
But I think it is the missing sense of community that will entice people back.
