Re: Pentecost Vigil

My Lectionary Vol I (2001 reprint of the 1982 study edition) DOES clearly use the words "Any one of the following readings..." on p. 596. The rubric in the Roman Missal (England, Wales etc) on p. 280 Pentecost Vigil says "This Mass is celebrated on Saturday evening before of after Eve...

Re: Music for weddings

I haven't presided at more than 4 weddings so far (and one was in Nigeria!) but if I need to offer suggestions to the couple, I'd start with docmattc's original suggestions and the Laudate offerings listed by contributors above, plus perhaps the following: For a tune everyone will know, even unchurc...

Re: Genuflecting Extraordinary Ministers

In my parish, which has a centrally-located tabernacle east of the altar, the ministers come and stand at the appropriate side of the altar without bowing or genuflecting. They are not passing in front of the Blessed Sacrament at this point, merely approaching the altar on which the Sacrament is pla...

Re: When do the children leave?

In my parish, I continue my predecessor's practice of dismissing the children after the greeting and before the penitential rite. The prayer docmattc refers to is on p. 13 of http://www.liturgyoffice.org.uk/SOS/LOWC.pdf - we don't currently use that but now I know it's there... On Good Friday 2008, ...

Some useful resources: For a history of communion-without-Mass in 1st millennium religious order houses, see m For a review of the practice of daily communion (with obvious implications for Word-and-Communion services), see http://www.drgareth.info/DailyCommunion.pdf (This article was wri...

Re: Liturgical Rites

I'd like to pick on another of the liturgical rites mentioned - the Acclamation for the Baptised. I presume this means the optional acclamation immediately following baptism, but perhaps we can widen this to a particular group of congregational responses? As a newly ordained priest (May 2007) I have...

Re: Psalms

A final question - which is slightly off on a tangent - how often is the text of the psalm referred to in the homily in people's experience? And presuming a low scoring answer why? As a preacher (ordained deacon 2006, priest 2007) I usually look at the psalm along with the other texts as a possible...
