Re: When do the children leave?
It all depends on how far they have to go. It may in some circumstances be necessary to dismiss them immediately after the opening sign of the cross and greeting. and bring their work up Oh no they don't. The purpose of this liturgy of the word is not to produce work (that's a task for a classroom, ...

Re: Making recordings
I think Keitha means that as ICEL holds the rights for ICEL texts, so DLT (is is still them?) holds the rights for the Jerusalem Bible and Fount for the Grail psalms. Grail is administered by HarperCollins these days ─ but not for long. When Grail IV comes in, it will presumably be administered by ...

Re: Making recordings
My enquiries reveal that there is not a problem recording music covered by Calamus on condition it is not sold. Now there's a commonsense solution! The recording of spoken ICEL mass texts in such limited circumstances is authorised by ICEL. The same applies to recordings of readings in the Lectiona...

Re: Music & Liturgy for non-members
I don't know what the SSG's policy is about this, but I believe that Church Music , in the days when Bill Tamblyn was editing it (before the Church Music Association returned to the bosom of the Society), could be purchased at station newspaper stalls, etc. It might be worth asking Bill how this was...

Re: Ascension and the Paschal Candle
It is a useful document. However, it is worth keeping in mind that, so Pierre Jounel tells us, it was issued in reaction to the Italian clergy who made little differentiation between the Easter Vigil and a Saturday evening anticipated Mass of Sunday, getting through the whole rite in 45 minutes. (My...

Re: Genuflecting Extraordinary Ministers
And whatever method the EMHCs use in their approach to the presbyterium - please don't distract the faithful from the Fraction and the recognition of the Lord in the "breaking of bread". Does the General Instruction not state that they should not 'approach the altar' before the celebrant ...

Re: Making recordings
You are depriving a labourer of their wages. Nope, I can't see that. Which labourer performs which work when the parish records its Sunday Mass for the benefit of half a dozen housebound members of the community? The composer is denied the payment which is legally theirs. Actually, I don't think th...

Re: Archbishop of Westminster
Westminster also has its own version of the acclamation, not used on this occasion, which I believe I sent to John Ainslie the last time the RK setting was discussed on this forum. I believe I also sent him the original arrangement made by Fr Daniel Higgins (which they did use - it's not quite the s...

Re: Making recordings
I know of two churches locally who are contemplating doing this, and I have heard of others where for years they have been making a cassette tape every Sunday. They don't edit: they simply record the whole Mass, which is then taken to the housebound person by the minister who is bringing them Commun...

Re: Archbishop of Westminster
Tamblyn's neo-Byzantine Lamb of God setting (6-7 part harmonies - can't remember the name of the setting it was in) I think you're referring to Vigil Mass. Thank you - yes, that's the one. It's beautifully atmospheric, offers the choir something to do, and is, most importantly, short enough to cove...

Southern Comfort, Northern Tenor and others might be interested in an extract from my last dissertation which I've loaded onto Issuu: m (If you hover to the right of the pages you should see an arrow which turns them for you.) I know it's terribly arrogant of me to post it, but I do so in the hope ...

Re: The Glory Days
There may or may not have been 'Glory Days' in big cathedrals, but I doubt there ever was in the average parish church. I think this is precisely what Nick was trying to imply (hope I am right, Nick). When the St Thomas More Centre was flourishing in the 1970s and 80s, what happened in a significan...

Re: The Glory Days
Northern Tenor , I think we must live in different worlds. I live in one where healthy disagreement is encouraged. If every time someone disagrees with you, you condemn it as offensive, then I'm afraid that I don't inhabit such a world. I thought you were being patronising to Nick, so I said so. If...

Re: The Glory Days
Many of my generation had the principles drummed into us. Despite being born in the same year, you and I had very different musical upbringings, Nick - my formation in liturgical music was pretty anarchic, and I came to my grasp of the principles (such as it is) after I'd been a practitioner for ma...

Re: The Glory Days
This is nothing less than patronising, in my view. You have tried to derail the principle topic of this thread I'm sorry that you've descended to peronal abuse again, SC. It wasn't helpful previously, and it doesn't add anything to this thread. At what point does expressing an opinion become catego...
