Let me hasten to add that I never thought that Phil was differentiating thus. I was merely underlining the need for inclusion. :)

Re: When was the golden age?

Perhaps the time has come to gather people together to share what we find to be good and worthy of our present liturgies and to produce a statement of intent and to enlist signatures of support. I agree. And, since not all dioceses have a director of music and not all cathedrals recognise their rol...

Re: New/Revised Mass Settings - Across the Pond

(Apologies to Alan and Paul for omitting the publisher above; I'm not sure whether/who/etc.) Thanks, mob . The Pershore Mass will be published by Decani in due course. Let me heartily recommend Peter Jones' Newman Acclamations too. They and the Pershore Gloria have already had an airing in Birmingh...

We've had to postpone - but we'll try again in September 2011. As soon as I have the precise dates I will post again.

Re: Dorothy Howell

Well, I've drawn a blank on this so far, but let's have one last attempt. One each of S, A, T & B would do it!

Re: Dorothy Howell

The music staff at the Birmingham Central Library would like to mark the end of their temporary exhibition about Dorothy Howell with a short impromptu concert, featuring some of her liturgical music. I have been invited to try to assemble a small group of singers for this event, which will take plac...

Re: "Child Friendliness"

Those who ask for child-friendly music are invariably really asking for the music that they remember from their childhood. Absolutely! My work took me into a Catholic school last week, and the conversation turned to their repertoire of music for Mass. Whole-school Masses were surprisingly infrequen...

Re: Forum Members singing at Cofton Park

I'll be there. Like contrabordun, I have enjoyed rehearsing the singers - at Wolverhampton and Worcester in my case. I'm sure we are all looking forward to singing as a full choir of over 2000. While the Director of Music (whoever he or she is) is conducting the parish choirs (most of whom are adult...

Re: US recognitio for new Missal received

Those of us who experienced the new texts (or at least something very close to them) at Summer School... Not quite close enough (e.g. the Doxology to the Eucharistic Prayer) for those of us who have composed new settings At least none of the UK settings are in print yet (not even the MacMillan, tho...

Re: baptized with fire

That's right, permission is given for refrains, responses and the like. Please note that this permission does not extend to copying entire pieces. We reckoned that musical directors, organists, cantors and choir members would each need their own copies of the book. If the time comes (if it has not a...

Re: Liturgical formation

I'm curious to know if these ever saw the light of day Absolutely. Fr Peter Jones and I taught the Preliminary Syllabus no less than three times in the Birmingham Archdiocese - Kidderminster, Wolverhampton and Maryvale - and I know that we were by no means the only ones. The Syllabus is a useful fr...

I hope this will not affect the turnout, CB.

Re: What's the difference..?

Why is it that liturgists (people who have studied the CSL & GIRM etc. and have a wide knowledge of the repertoire and options available) are constantly ignored and over-ruled by non-liturgists (people who have no knowledge of the above)? I sometimes think that some of those "who have stud...

Re: New Gloria etc (copyright, again)

Yes, the texts of English translation of the third edition of the Roman Missal, including the Order of Mass will all be copyright ICEL. One of the effects of Liturgiam Authenticam was that translation bodies put working ecumenically on a lower footing and therefore producing common texts became les...
