Good call, mcb - I use Firefox; it works fine in IE.

Thanks again

Re: The GIRM or not The GIRM

Thanks, both for your prompt assistance. SC - I have the downloaded Missal - imprimatur March 2011 - is the GIRM contained in that the latest translation? MCB - I followed the link, and then followed a link given in the blog, but I got a document obviously comparing paragraphs from two sources, but ...

The GIRM or not The GIRM

An article in the currend issue of Music and Liturgy gives a link to the online GIRM ( m ). I had a quick look at this and found on the back of the title sheet the following: Excerpts from the English translation of The Roman Missal © 2010, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporat...

Re: Easter Vigil - when did you start and finish?

As a matter of interest, how do you, dear reader, cope with this Easter Alleluia? Exactly a you do, John - Celebrant does as directed, then Deacon intones the simple alleluia which is the response for the Gospel Acclamation, as he does every Sunday - works perfectly well, and he doesn't feel displa...

Re: Easter Vigil - when did you start and finish?

Very similar to Keitha - 8.00 start - rather too daylight outside for the start, but dark by the time we processed in with candles and got to the Exsultet (sung by the Deacon - used to be my party piece before we had a Deacon - serves me right for enjoying it too much!) We had a pre-lit fire - a tri...

Re: ICEL Notation

Perhaps they were secretly anti-chant and wanted to make it as unatractive and unsingable as they could so that no-one would use it - ?

Re: ICEL Notation

Is ICEL only providing the pitches and leaving it up to us to apply our own rhythmic interpretations? I seem to recall that this point was made some time ago in connection with the Sanctus, and the tendency to sing the rather ugly "Ho-LEEE-EEE" copying the Latin version of the melody. It ...

Re: Counselling needed.

. . . . Birmingham hasn't given up on liturgy and music (!) . . . I'll join you, Keitha, in not mentioning the adviser by name - although many posting here will know him well - and yes, I had heard he was ill, but making progress, thank God,, and of course I wish him well - this is in no way pointe...

Re: Counselling needed.

think about contacting the diocese for help in refreshing the music. I'm not sure you'd get much of a result there, Oops - I get a distinct sense that music is no longer the current "big thing". We read more than a year ago (I think) that two dioceses had abolished their "heads of mu...

Responses to the Prayer of the Faithful

Should these responses be sung? - does anyone do that? - are there any standard settings? (I have on rare and "special" occasions heard the Taize chant "O Lord hear my prayer" used, but that seems to me to go on far too long!)

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Re: Help please! - Advent Matins Responsory

Thanks for the help, Kietha. I'm taking it that the "Office of Readings" is "the book formerly known as Breviary" and is the ultimate source book for this text. Is the translation you give that of 1972 (if I have that right), or is there a more recent one? I notice that it still ...

Help please! - Advent Matins Responsory

Hello folks - I'm helping a rather ad-hoc little choir prepare an Advent carol service, and I thought it might be a good idea to open with the Responsory from Matins of the First Sunday of Advent. However, the one which they (and you) might have heard - the one in Carols for Choirs 2 (Palestrina via...

Re: Notation software

So reports of Sibelius's demise were exaggerated then? - is the Sibelius/Finale debate still running? BTW, after my post above I noticed that the current website for Personal Composer states it was introduced in 1983, so I can offer no explanation for the file date I quoted (especially as I didn't b...
