Re: 50th International Eucharistic Congress - musically

Just noticed that Michael Joncas has a short critique of the event from three angles: the music used in the ceremony, liturgical art and environment, and the homily of the principal concelebrant Cardinal Marc Ouellet. It can be viewed and commented on at m . He lists the music used in the Eucharist ...

Communion under both species

One of the things I find interesting, and somewhat alarming, is that so many of our communion hymns speak of partaking of the body and blood of Christ, when on the ground here in Ireland the reality is that communion under both species is either rare or non-existant. I am music minister in two churc...

Re: Notation software

I use Finale for my own personal use, and teach Sibelius as a module in school. Re: A year on, what are we singing?

In Ireland, there are four mass settings being used throughout the country: Mass of Saint Paul by Ephrem Feeley, Glendalough Mass by Liam Lawton, Mass of Saint Columba by Columba McCann and Mass of Renewal by Bernard Sexton. These have been published jointly by the National Centre for Liturgy and th...

Re: Psalm for a diaconal ordination

This is probably a bit late - Ronan McDonagh has a setting of Psalm 83 (84) called Blessed are They who Dwell in your House . It has a very usable two-part refrain; the verses are a tad adventurous, in free time, but should suit a good cantor. It's published in the collection Feasts and Seasons , wh...
