Re: Mothering Sunday
But I feel that Jesus, being a man, cannot be my mother... As far as I am aware, it is OK to use female imagery for God (see the new catechism). My favourite example of this is Bernadette Farrell's 'Everyday God'. Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) referred to a female creator (Creatrix) in at least o...

Re: Choir guidelines
Yes, can identify with that one, Doc Matt. But give them a break – our lot only know a month in advance when it's their turn to be eucharistic ministers – that's not time for them to tell me why they can't sing a particular communion processional. Or is it more to do with the fact, that so many if ...

Strange, too, that SC should suggest the Creed and the Pater Noster rather than those texts (like the Sanctus) which everyone should be singing. Couldn't agree more, but I am interested in the spirit rather than the letter. I was born in God's Own City, and my world did indeed end at 4 compass poin...

Hare, could you (or somebody) give us the paragraph please? For the benefit of those without a copy to hand. Thanks. Musicus "Since the faithful from different countries come together ever more frequently, it is fitting that they know how to sing together at least some parts of the Ordinary of the ...

Here's a reason: GIRM.41 April 2005 edition, 2nd paragraph.
That's why my parish do it.

I am not involved in either, but does anyone know if there is similar debate over Latin v. vernacular in medical or horticultural circles?

OK - let's just say that personally, my organ playing needs more preparation than my conducting!! No offence meant to anyone!
Perhaps I ought to stop speaking my mind - I'll give the forum a break for a while!

I can't really complain / comment - as an organist I am paid for playing at many funerals; any that take place in my own church (not many perhaps 4/5 a year) and elsewhere. (total so far this year: 62!) This is an important part of my self-employed income. Could the reason for paying the organist be...

I take it that your "good morning" is the introduction to a congregational rehearsal?
Why do I never remember experiencing, let alone leading, one of these in my Free Church and, later, Anglican days?

It really made an impression then! It may sound obvious, and it is - but people do take things in the liturgy for granted. Too many Marian hymns (among other things) just become part of the wallpaper, or a habit. Our previous PP caused great controversy by dropping the "Hail Mary" from the Bidding P...

Marian hymns
There would be a riot, caused by a vocal few here if we didn't sing Marian hymns at the end of Mass in May and October. Yes, I know it's liturgically incorrect, but, stickler as i am, it is a "trade off" I am prepared to make in favour of other things that I feel more strongly about. I draw the line...
