Re: Rome issues Triduum instructions
It is a shame that the period from the 4th Sunday of Lent through to Pentecost and all the liturgies that come with it couldn't be moved to later in the year, in place of the Sundays of Ordinary Time. You can't pretend that you are somewhere different in the calendar. It's the same case as if you w...

Re: Live-streamed liturgy: what about music?
I certainly agree that Catholics should be seen to be observing the spirit of the law and shouldn't be seen to looking for loop-holes.

Re: Live-streamed liturgy: what about music?
The regulations refer to "a minister of religion" going to their place of worship, not to more than one.
On the face of it, unless they are members of the same household, there should only be the celebrant.
I'm sure lawyers would smack their lips at the possibilities.

Re: Live-streamed liturgy: what about music?
I flicked through some livestreams on Sunday morning. I saw a cathedral in NI with several priests concelebrating with no distancing. I saw an English cathedral where the bishop was in full gear and had an assistant priest close enough to wrangle his crozier and mitre. I saw a parish Mass where ther...

Re: Presentation of the Lord
It must be akin to members of the increasing numbers of parishes that are being handed over to orders that celebrate only in the EF.

Re: Presentation of the Lord
We had the Propers of the Presentation and suitable songs, but candles were neither blessed nor perambulated.
Shame, really.
I suspect the pp (who has a full-time diocesan post) didn't realise until it was too late to order candles.

Yes that would make sense.
But since when did sense come into it?

Paraphrases - yet again!
Thinking forward to the Triduum. I know that Mass texts are not supposed to be paraphrased, but what about things like hymns and other sung texts during the Triduum where certain translations are included in the Missal? Thinking of things like Ubi Caritas and the Reproaches. Can we use paraphrases o...

Recycled paper, I hope!Nick Baty wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 2:05 pm We have Laudate and, apart from occasional midweek use, it sits unloved on its shelves. That psalm tone is very familiar. I have checked and its not on my sheet of Bevenot tones.

Evensong at York Minster. Proper choral evensong, the shining jewel in Anglicanisms crown. An indifferent visiting choir didnt spoil it. Lovely. But if Cranmer was able to translate the latin collects into beautiful clear English with wonderfully balanced phrases, how come our lot made such a pig's ...

I wholeheartedly agree with your comments about schools.
I doubt we will ever see the day when an honest and realistic appraisal of their usefulness is undertaken. They have become some sort of a shibboleth.

Re: Diocesan youth celebrations
Schols have little curriculum time that they can set aside to liturgical music. They learn what is appropriate for their age and what can be taught in limited time. Lets face it, 95% of them will never go to church again when they get to secondary school, so it matters not that they arent learning w...
