Re: Liturgy

Oops , every time people bend the rules or break them, we all suffer as a consequence. If people had consistently behaved themselves over the past 14 months, we'd be a lot further on in the process of exiting the restrictions than we actually are. The people who have tried to wiggle round, or have ...

Re: The Great Awakening

https://youtu.be/SyBEMRyt6Qg Nice tune. Nice performance. Stupid sentiment! Those who selfishly and ignorantly disregard (temporary) restrictions are prolonging the pandemic and share in the respnsibility of countless, needless deaths. Civil liberties and mental health are, of course, crucially imp...

Coronavirus: Singing 'no more risky than talking'.......

..........at a similar volume.

This article was on BBC news today.

It does seem to suggest that plainchant is safer than a rousing sing. :)

Re: Bishops Conference Guidelines for the Celebration of Public Mass

A draft copy of this document read....... " Until further instruction is given on singing, there should be no congregational singing at Mass. A soloist or cantor is permitted as long as there is supplementary mitigation of risk, such as a persplex screen or face covering, to prevent aerosol tra...

The German experience

Churches in Germany were allowed to open today. But, as well restrictions on the numbers allowed to attend, singing was banned as it creates a greater risk of spreading Covid-19. :(

Re: Diocesan youth celebrations

Schools tend towards the 'happy clappy' because it's closer to children's culture. So, as organist says, they learn a very limited style of repertoire and they tend to look upon this dumbed-down fare as being music for small children: so they lose interest in it once they go to secondary school. No...

Re: Involving visitors - music of First Holy Communion

This morning I assisted with the music for a First Holy Communion Mass in a neighbouring parish. About 12 minutes before Mass was due to start, the PP took command in quelling the loud conversation in the unusually-full church by commencing a decade of the Rosary along with other devotional prayers....

And makes everything unnecessarily rushed, detracting from the dignity of the celebration.

Re: Liturgical Tourism

Encouraged to do so on another thread, here is an account of my experience of liturgy in Malta over the Triduum. We attended the Triduum liturgies at one church and Sunday morning at another. The Triduum music seemed to be run by a youth group (in their 20s) and was all praise & worship in style...

Re: The wickedness of face cream

Would you like to tell us about them, HP? If they don't belong on this thread they could surely fit under "Liturgical Tourism". I am building up to doing so - I need a little time to give a measured account. Sufficient to say at the moment that it was not an overwhelmingly positive...

Re: Easter Vigil - when did you start and finish?

We started at 8.30 when it was still light outside. It got darker during the Exultet. That isn't quite what is meant to happen, is it? No,indeed it isn't....... "The entire celebration of the Easter Vigil takes place at night. It should not begin before nightfall; it should end before daybreak...

Re: The wickedness of face cream

This was more down to the accent of the priest but, in one of the Triduum homilies, I swear that I heard him make reference to the Letter to the Fallopians.

Easier, but very limiting. I am presently pushing for a switch from hymnals.
