I keep cheekily suggesting to my Parish Priest that we should try and establish the Parish as an Oratory :D

Re: Mass translation may be revised?

I completely agree with what Alan says about wider issues and decline, but it would be foolish to ignore the importance of the celebration of Mass in terms of peoples' personal relationship with the church. A pick and choose approach to liturgy (priest's style, musical style, translation - or not!) ...

Re: Mass translation may be revised?

I'm certainly no expert on Latin but I personally don't find that a barrier. I've been to Latin Masses where I've found it easy to enter into the liturgy and get a lot out of it. I've been to Masses exclusively in English where I've understood every single word and walked away feeling stone cold. I'...

Re: Mass translation may be revised?

Sorry, I know I'm being a tad mischievous.

Vernacular liturgy doesn't automatically mean that our worship is open, nor does Latin liturgy automatically mean our worship is closed.

I have experienced both in both.

Re: Singing the Sunday Mass psalm

Just on a personal side issue, does anyone happen to have any of the following going spare? m We use these in our parish and are a few short for the number in the choir. As you can imagine, we don't fancy paying £289 per copy, but we're happy to pay a more 'normal' price if anyone has a copy they're...

Re: Singing the Sunday Mass psalm

Good suggestion. I would add as a 'teaching option', and for the antiphonal effect, that you could alternate between you and the congregation. I know some parishes where everyone says all of the psalm all the way through with the response only at the beginning and the end. Perhaps this is an option,...

Re: The Baptism of the Lord

Yes, I'm not all that happy with feasts like the Epiphany being transferred to the nearest Sunday.

If the Bishop's reverse this decision do we really think we're going to get people to church through the week for these great feasts?

Once you've lost something like that it's hard to claw it back.

Yes, can't understand why it takes up valuable space in the liturgy or carol services when there's so much outstanding Christmas repertoire.

Re: Remembrance Sunday or 33rd of the Year

Our musical programme has been very similar for the last few years for Remembrance Sunday too. Procession to the war memorial at the back of church: Quiet organ music - I vow to thee my country Act of Remembrance National Anthem Procession from the back of church to the altar to begin Mass: Ainslie ...

Re: Extraordinary Form

And yet, people with disabilities have their service mid afternoon. And last time, no priest came so there was no Mass. Here are the most vulnerable without a priest. Or even a Communion Minister to hold a thingy whatsit instead. I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you're referring to here. The phrase &qu...

Re: Extraordinary Form

Why one language should permit inclusion and the other be all discriminatory. Well you can't blame inequality in terms of altar servers' gender on the fact that the Extraordinary Form is in Latin. I think it's more to do with the rubrics, doctrine, norms etc surrounding how the liturgy was celebrat...

I'm not sure it's the language which is the defining factor.
