Bible versions that are for use by Protestant denominations do not include the Deuterocanonical books. Sometimes a protestant Bible will include an Apocrypha at the end. This contains most but not all the Deuterocanonical books. A Catholic edition will contain the Deuterocanonical books in place. A ...

I last sang Fullin the panting heart at Wembley 1982. Can't see any problem with Faith of Our Fathers - I chose it for SS Peter and Paul this year. Quite a few years ago I belonged to an ecumenical 18+ group. We decided to visit various of the local churches in turn. When we were at one of the Bapti...

Who said the Congregation can't sing the verses of a Responsorial Gloria? In our parish we encourage those who wish to to join in the whole thing (we'd have a real problem stopping them!!) but the responsorial refrain means that visitors can join in with something. I'm afraid I'm guilty of writing a ...

I have found that Noteworthy Composer fits my rather limited requirements. It may not have the glamour of Finale or Sibelius but it is shareware.

Not all churches are declining. In 1997 we built a new church which was double the size of the old one and cut the number of Masses from 4 to 3. At each of those Masses the church is now 3/4 full to full with people standing. First Communions, Christmas and Good Friday are a nightmare as we try to s...

when are musicians supposed to receive communion

According to the liturgical documents, the Communion Song is supposed to start as soon as the priest receives Communion. On a purely practical level, is it possible for the musicians in your average parish (i.e. not blessed with many musicians who can "take turns" at providing congregational support...

At times I get the feeling that in some places inclusive language is used instead of making the women of the parish feel fully included. I don't care that men, brethren etc are used as long as I feel a fully valued part of the community. Before using humankind etc (or even instead of using it) make ...

Thanks for the suggestions. I've now written a versified version with an Alleluia response. The group like it - I just need to see how it goes down on Easter Sunday. One slight drawback - the response is so catchy that we meet the people coming out of Stations singing 'Alleluia'!! (Stations has been...

When moving to ur current area, and having had a dreadful experience in our old Parish, we decided that this time we would try out the local parishes before deciding which to go to. We selected the smallest and least church like building first. We found the parish friendly and the volume of singing ...

Thanks M

I've tried Led like a lamb for the past couple of years. If I get nothing that fits better I'll use it again this year. I just wondered if there was anything else out there.

Sequence for Easter

I have not been able to find a version of the Sequence for Easter Sunday that I am happy with. Has anyone any ideas? It needs to be playable on guitars and with an easily singable (dare I say catchy) congregational part. I have thought of composing something myself but inspration is failing me.

Presbyter. It may not be fragmentation as such but use of the available resources. In our parish I lead the Music Group at 9 am on 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month (plus major feast and weekend when the 1st Communion children attend en-masse), the remaining 9 am Masses have a Cantor (plus organist i...

Things that happened at Weddings

In response to ILRush let's start a non-serious topic of all those wedding incidents. I was brought up Anglican and would sing at up to 5 weddings each Saturday in the summer. Among me recollections are: The Wedding was at 1.00 and the Groom hadn't eaten after what we presume was a skinful the night...
