Re: Two Issues (Communion Hymns and Month of May)

Let's just be honest about this.

The only thing they teach in Oscott (and all seminaries) is that: 'There HAS to be a hymn to Our Lady at every Mass - at Communion'.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

' ... educating children in good liturgy?'

How do we do this?

It seems that children are only taught 'As I kneel ...', 'Take our bread ...' and some CCM titles.

Re: Two Issues (Communion Hymns and Month of May)

Perhaps we need to break off into another thread, along the lines of:

What is the job of RC liturgical musicians?

Are we there to teach?

Re: Two Issues (Communion Hymns and Month of May)

Nick, I haven't been asked to teach anything.

I have tried to in the past, but have always been over-ruled by RC teachers.

Re: Two Issues (Communion Hymns and Month of May)

Not at all Nick.

I suggest musical settings, and some hymns and responses. If people like them then that's great.

Am I wrong, but is it the Archbishop's job to advise on Liturgy?

Re: Two Issues (Communion Hymns and Month of May)

Absolutely Nick!

I am just too old (50) to argue with people.

It is not my job to 'impose' or refuse any text, style or musical setting.

Re: How to sing Mass parts without alienating your congregat

In my previous parish, the music group was asked to ' ... sing the psalm and everything'. This caused consternation with many of the flock. I was informed that singing the Alleluia was 'taking it away from the people'. I heard of some people who phoned the parish priest in great anger and said that ...

Re: Where are we heading with liturgical formation?

Sorry for the confusion, Musicus. What I meant was, why would BJHNILM wish to build links with a certain Church Music Association? Back on topic -- where are we heading? Are we going to have to 'learn' not to wash women's feet, learn latin & archaic english, and abandon contemporary music? Will ...
