Re: Extraordinary Form
Such anomalies will continue to appear as long as the Humpty Dumpty school of translation holds sway in Rome - any multi-syllabic English word that looks a bit like a Latin one is obviously a translation of it - especially, though not in this case, if it ends in "-ion"! "Un-favourites...

Re: Glory be to thee O Lord Most High
Can anyone throw any light on how this came about? Not I, but it might help if someone could explain exactly what "Hosanna in the highest" means - - is it " the very best form of Hosanna!" (sort of "Hosanna in spades!"), or "Hosanna is being shouted in the highest...

Re: Ordo Queries
To fulfil your obligation to attend Mass on the N'th of Monthember, you can attend any valid Mass whatsoever on the Nth, or any valid Mass whatsoever in the "evening" (i.e. 4pm or later) on day N-1 of Monthember. Thank God (and Fr Gareth) for a note of sanity in this issue which has aggra...

Re: Guide for Accompanying Mass
The issue with the musician who plays by ear is easily resolved if that musician can provide a list of hymns to the committee that they can accompany. - ? - as in "if you lot want any of these you can jolly well play them yourselves!" Ah the holes we dig with the politically delicate use ...

Re: Carols at Midnight Mass
AS I am at this very moment preparing the order of service for the congregation it seems churlish not to share it with you by the magic of Cut and Paste (excuse any typos - the eagle-eyed Mrs Q is as we speak proof-reading the draft - and I notice in the preview that the tabbing has not copied well ...

Re: 4 o'clock Vigil service?
I think this dates back to the days when churches were so full that folk would arrive up to an hour early just to get a seat That's only partly the case - actually more important was to get the congregation safely in and the doors closed and guarded before the Christmas Eve extension in the pubs - ...
