Re: New Celtic Liturgy (Walker)

Why on earth do people put things like this on YouTube? In fairnessw (I've calmed down now!) there's a comment added by someone who appears to know the singer praising the clip (somewhat over-effusively, I think) and referring to the possibility that it's a rehearsal clip for the choir, so a good e...

Re: New Celtic Liturgy (Walker)

It's an old topic, I know, but being obliged to research the New Celtic Liturgy ("requested" for a service for which the choice of music is beyond my control) I dug out first this thread, and then the YouTube clip linked below to see how it should be done (!) Ah well - - at lease I won't e...

Do I misunderstand? - do you mean singing in parallel 5ths, John? - how is that shown in the notation?

Re: Tenebrae

Not exactly overwhelmed with help so far then, Blackthorn Fairy - ! I'm not an expert, but if I throw in my two penn'orth from what I can remember from my schooldays (so before even the Holy Week reforms of 1955) you can be sure to be inundated with postings correcting my errors. A description of Te...

Thanks SC - but I was thinking of the whole collection of examples towards which I have been directing "my" pp and deacon. not just this specific one.

Re: Readings for the Easter Vigil

In the booklets provided for our congregation, (issued over the Imprimatur of the Archbishop of Birmingham) the directions for the psalm after the seventh reading are as follows "When there is a baptism at the Vigil the following Psalm 41/42 is used or Psalm 50. [there follows psalm 41] If a Ba...

Re: Exultet

There's a simpler setting . . on this web page . . but not for much longer, I suspect..... It would be a shame to loose such a useful resource. Were there to be by chance anyone connected with that department reading this, might it be possible to rescue the material, and might the Society website b...

I was once asked for "Ave Maria" where "Ave" rhymed with "brave"

Re: New Pope

The first three Masses after the announcement of a new Pope can depart from the usual liturgical restraints That's a very neat catch that I didn't know about - I was just about to ask how you got away with those volunteries but fortunately paused to do a bit of calendar research in case I'd missed ...

Re: Closure of Department for Pastoral Formation - Portsmout

It puzzles me as there is supposedly a shortage of vocations to the priesthood and we should be doing more to help but then one of these oh precious priests is brought in to replace a lay person. How perceptive, SOP! - but surely you have noticed by now that the power of the sacrament of Holy Order...

Forgive my technical ineptitude - I've clicked on this link but all I can see is completely innocent stuff about organs and organists, I'd like to know what it is I'm supposed to be outraged by :?

What did I do wrong?

Re: A Gospel Acclamation tone?

We certainly do, Nick, but I'm thinking of times when there is no "organised" music but it's still possible - and desirable - for some brave soul to lead the main Acclamations (maybe that should be taught in seminaries - it would seem that it is on the Continent). A neighbouring parish her...

Re: A Gospel Acclamation tone?

The one I regard as "standard" Nick - simply represented as "G A B G . A-B A-G E_ D_ . G A-B A-G G" - widely encountered on the continent intoned by the celebrant and less frequently in this country (but not by the celebrant!) On the continent I've often heard just the Alleluia w...

A Gospel Acclamation tone?

Is there a standard chant tone to use as a default setting for the Gospel Acclamation verse? - it seems such an admission of defeat if a congregation sings a lusty Alleluia and then recites the verse. Come to think of it, are there default chant settings of the "Alleluia substitutes" used ...

Re: And now for something completely different...

SC, you've just reminded me that I've not been contacted about my annual participation in the Misa Campesina Nicaraguense which should be coming up about now - try this link for a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l07dX6wQ96M

or this: Vhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBeEQ54axEM

Perhaps the text police have caught up with the organisers :?
