Indeed; the same thought occured to me - I am only the "middle man" here though. I will pass on your very sensible comment to our PP!

Re: Electronic Bell Simulation

Factual information please, or I shall be sorry I bothered to ask a serious question. For the record, our church does not even have a bell turret, let alone a tower so no one is being put out of work. I am the last one to advocate use of CD's over live music in any circumstances. I know nothing of t...

Electronic Bell Simulation

My PP has recently visited a parish with an electronic bell simulation system capable of tolling, change-ringing etc, and has asked me to look into the possibility of obtaining one for our parish.

Anyone had any experience of these and could offer any advice please?

Re: Archaic translations (ICEL)

Any congregation using the hymn "Immortal, invisible" will already be familiar with the word ineffable. I think you might mean "O worship the King, all glorious above" The word in "Immortal, invisible" is "inaccesible".............. (Just realized the unintio...

Pentecost Vigil

In my parish we have always used the Vigil Mass of Pentecost on the Saturday evening. Our Diocesan Ordo (Southwark) says that this should be used, but that only one OT reading is necessary. However, what I read here http://www.salfordliturgy.org/pentecostb.htm seems to contradict this. Help please!!

Re: Glory to God (Berthier) Laudate 528

I suspect it could be because of translation issues, but I do find this terribly clunky. Is it just me? I know what you mean-the text was originally in French and does fit better (pronouncing" grande" as "grand-e" and "terre" as "terr-e":- Gloire à Dieu dans ...

Re: Glory to God (Berthier) Laudate 528

I use this setting regularly for occasions when there are plenty of visitors, e.g. First Communions, Confirmation, Christmas Midnight Mass. Normally my 4-part choir lead the singing, and the congregation, encouraged by me as music leader/animator, repeat the refrain after its initial singing by the...

Glory to God (Berthier) Laudate 528

I am thinking of introducing the above. Does anyone here do it, and if so, how do you allocate the verses - choir/cantor with all singing the refrain, or everyone singing throughout?

Any info gratefully received.

Re: School Graduation Masses

I totally take on board the points about making an occasion special with great organ playing but that will only make it an occasion if you like organ music. Helen But please don't anyone fall into the trap of not using certain types of music "in case someone doesn't like it". I have been ...

Re: School Graduation Masses

Sorry, Musicus. My fault for responding to criticism of our first city and it's people. I should get on with helping create music for the litugy and ignore the crap. My apologies too - but Nick, please see my original post: I was born in Sefton General Hospital. Also, no criricism was intended - me...

Re: School Graduation Masses

We'd love a lot more organ playing in Liverpool churches – but finding organists is a different matter. I work across three churches. Two do not have organs and we'd make do with our lovely Clavinovas – but we can't find anyone to play those either. The third church has a magnificent organ which is...

Re: School Graduation Masses

So what's the link between that particular organ – in the church where my grandfather sang in the choir – and your earlier statement? Simply, I suspect there may not be a lot of organ playing going on in many Liverpool parishes. (Now MIDI........ ) And I didn't know you had a connection with that c...
