Re: Out of the mouths of babes ...

... but who now would think it sensible to preserve or serve the Word only in a language that no one understands - a dead language in fact? (Only in other major faiths it seems to me). The folks who approved that in the Vatican II documents. And me. For reasons of mutual comprehensibility and relat...

Re: Post-Conciliar discontinuity

... Trid Trad ... I like it! Brothers, we are treading where the Trid Trads trod ... I fear that a time might come when we will be grateful for a celebration of any form and in any language. That's the case for some parishes anyway, thanks to problems of provision. I can't say there's a language in...

Re: Out of the mouths of babes ...

I should think he's well on his way to becoming a Protestant, no offence intended. I wonder what his influences have been at such a tender age. "Are you coming to the egalitarian mass later on?" "No, I'm going to the codified mass of the millenium of communal destruction." "...

Re: Mocqurray

But of course that raises the problem of admiring the singer rather his text, as St Jerome had cause to complain. A problem mentioned a bit more often than the no less dangerous problem of disliking the singing rather than focussing on the text! Or admiring the musical composition rather than focus...

As the Alleluia is sung by the people, how can singing it be taking it away? :?

Because people are given the right not to sing, Nick. Such people then feel that their right to mumble the mass has been taken away from them.

Re: Mocqurray

... how oriental they sound (squiggles and augmented intervals,) and how reminiscent of Hebridean psalm singing in the way that some singers decorate, but not others. It's all the fault of folk like Marcel Pérès and Lykoúrgos Aggelópoulos or however he spells his name. ... how very difficult it wou...

Re: Mocqurray

Youtube never fails to surprise me. I've come across a video showing an excerpt from the Nivers gradual, which is the kind of thing that was happening in France before Solesmes embraced the romantic era in all its oratoricality and went in search of the oldest versions of the chants. A Silesian chan...

Re: Mocqurray

Thanks for that link, alan29. You're spot on - beautifully sung, even when the singer is on his last gasp. A good dose of ison with some Marcel Pérès once in a while does no harm at all at all! There is so much interesting rhythmic variety in the Latin hymns and sequences, it's so musically impoveri...

Re: Mocqurray

HelenR, Maybe we could have a new board set up " liturgy matters but petty squabbles come first" I can't be sure, but you may be implying that defending myself from Southern Comfort's repeated insults about me is a petty concern, either for myself or for the moderators or that refusing to ...

Re: Mocqurray

Guess I'll try Google - those guys bruise less easily. Indeed - some people are so sensitive that they can't even bear to be mentioned on a thread they're already involved in. If you weren't happy for me to mention your (evident) interest in the topic to Southern Comfort, you could just have said s...

Forum members must not try to 'out' the identities of those who post under pseudonyms. ... The Society of Saint Gregory does not operate in a societal vacuum. Paul Inwood's character is currently being tarnished by the antics of Southern Comfort for want of clarification. Any perception of Paul Inw...

The PM thing, CC was just in deference to what I read as you wish not to draw any further fire by passing on anything further in open forum. Perhaps I misunderstood. I'm more than happy to keep it public. I'm happy to keep it public if you're happy for me to quote your (public) interest to Southern...

Quaeritor, I uphold your right not to choose sides. You have made statement, in full view of the forum members, which shows your interest in the topic. I have used the evidence of your interest to counter Southern Comforter's assertion that my "boring diatribes ... do not encourage others to en...

Well, quaeritor, speaking as the object of the personal vituperation whose side you do not wish to take, I hope you can understand me consequently not wishing to expose myself to possible further personal vituperation from Southern Comfort at your behest.
