Re: Easter Vigil lights.

After the third "Lumen Christi" and the Paschal Candle has been placed on a stand next to the Ambo or in the middle of the sanctuary, the lights are lit throughout the church, except for the altar candles. Surely we should remain in candlelight for the Exsultet! I would agree that, atmosp...

See the link below from Fr Paul Turner's blog (an excellent resource) for a description and explanation.

Re: Easter Sequence

Where is your PP planning to add this item? After Romans 6, the priest (or cantor) intones the first Alleluias of Easter, with verses from Psalm 117 this also forms an extended Gospel procession. Not sure where the sequence could be squeezed in. Sure he's not talking about Easter Day? I don't have ...

Easter Sequence

Our PP has just requested that the Sequence is sung at the Easter Vigil, something I haven't ever done.
Does anyone have any suggestions, whether for cantor, small group and/or congregation?

Re: Limited supply of Psalmists for the Easter Vigil

Thank you all for taking time to reply. We have built up the Triduum liturgies over the last few years, especially the Easter Vigil, and I really wanted to maintain the singing tradition. SC , I had to look up your musical Latinisms :D but that is very much what I was looking for - sonic variation w...

Limited supply of Psalmists for the Easter Vigil

In previous years I have had up to three Psalmists for the Easter Vigil. But this year it is looking like I will be the only one.
I am not altogether comfortable in taking on all the Psalms - too much of one voice. So do any of you fine people have any ideas of what we can do?

Re: SSG Summer School 2021

I concur! Some really excellent presentations.

The bar was a little disappointing, however.

Re: Singing again

Well, I don't think that it is inappropriate to say that I enjoyed that. But, more to the point, it simply felt right to be singing the Mass again. The restrictions that we have endured on how we celebrate the Holy Mass have been frustrating and painful, but entirely appropriate in the circumstances...

Much more modest restart for us: Mass setting, Acclamations and Psalm only.

Some reactions and attempts to explain here......though I do not find any of the "explanations" in the least persuasive.

Can anyone tell me why Boris Johnson and Carrie Symmonds were permitted to be married at Westminster Cathedral.

Re: Liturgy

People may have been more amenable towards rules made by a competent and honest government. Absolutely! I don't want to dwell on this issue too much - this is, after all, meant to be about liturgy - but I was in Manchester Royal Infirmary (yet again} today. Even there the number of people displayin...

Re: Liturgy

Oops , every time people bend the rules or break them, we all suffer as a consequence. If people had consistently behaved themselves over the past 14 months, we'd be a lot further on in the process of exiting the restrictions than we actually are. The people who have tried to wiggle round, or have ...
