Re: Baptism of the Lord

Going the way of Songs of Praise, far more entertainment than reality. What sort of reality would you want? You could simply wheel a few cameras into a parish church on a Sunday evening and see what happens (as was once the case) or you can raise the production values and put some money in to it. W...

Re: New Mass setting for School

When you say Masses, do you mean the full thing: Gloria, Alleluia, Holy, Acclamation, Doxology/Amen, Fraction Song? In which case I would say that I honestly couldn’t recommend a single setting. If, however, you mean acclamations plus Gloria and Fractio then the world is your turnip. It's nearly 20 ...

Re: New Mass setting for School

And (sorry for wittering on) how often do these occasions happen?
If you have one school Mass a term you might only need one setting for the whole year.
If you have one a week you'll need several.

Re: New Mass setting for School

Give us more clues about what you're looking for.
Voices and piano?
Optional choir parts?
(Even have one here with optional claves and maracas).

And don't forget the choral arrangements of so much mainstream repertoire: for example, have you ever tried the choral verses of Walker's Teach me, O Lord?

Re: New Year resolutions (2009)

To programme more items into our lovely new Yamaha Clavinova so I can have a couple of Sundays off a year – that would make all the difference.
To cancel one choir practice in six.
Both selfish resolutions but I'm knackered.

Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence

Putting our music lists together for Lent.
Would love to you Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence on Second Sunday (8 March) but can't use verse 4 because of the Alleluias.
Rather than omit the verse (as we usually do), does anyone know of an alternative version of this verse?

Re: technology and CDs and such.......

I'll be using quite a bit of technology at Midnight Mass.

I've programmed several items as midi and will be playing them through our new Clavinova 401 – with live singers and live brass. It means there'll be quite a full orchestral sound.

Not necessarily. Some Anglican churches use the Grail translations. And you can sing them to Anglican chant which is a musical form – see link above.

quaeritor wrote:So what makes it "Anglican" chant?

Anglican Chant is a specific method of singing the psalms – reciting note, moving note(s) and landing note. Unlike Gregorian Chant often sung in harmony. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglican_chant

Dearest Oops, I so wish we'd spoken on Saturday. I hadn't realised you were there – or perhaps you are less recognisable without your large pink organ. ..... what was the reason that SSG does not have days of music workshopping around the country...? It was touched on a bit but I forget the outcome....
